If it matters to the thread starter, to service the a/c of the Vios you have to remove the whole dashboard.
Don't know if its the same case with the City.

And knowing CASA. They don't give a damn whenever your dashboard gets a little scratch or looses a clip.
Sabihin pa nila sayo when you find it out na andun na yun originally at di sila may gawa. LOL.

I think the FC of the City is a bit hyped here. My Uncle has a 2011 City E.
He's lucky to get 8km/l. I dunno, theoretically the 5AT should be more economical, thing is, it should have been economical IF the engine paired to it is torquey enough, which isn't the case. So, instead of holding a higher gear, the City's tranny sometimes even hunts on lower gears, downshifts in a snap and acts a bit busy. I've driven a Jazz 1.5V last week to Baguio and this is what i've observed with the tranny's behavior. And indeed, around Baguio city, i only managed to averaged around 8+ something km/l, which isnt bad for an engine with 600kms on the odo but hardly thrifty.
Although among the 2, i'd pick the City, especially the MC model coming in a few months time, it now has power folding mirrors, steering wheel audio controls and one-ups the Vios with 16" wheels and 185/55R16 tires.
I still believe though, the Vios is still a lower maintenance car of the two, I own one. Plus i can vouch that the Vios 1.5G AT like my car could easily hit 10km/l on normal driving. I think both cars are reliable. As practical as the other.
The Vios is less roomy but with a flat rear floor. The City has a huge trunk.

January 3rd, 2012 07:31 PM #14Honda City gets my vote. Love your own.
The best way to get very good FC with the 1.5E is to use the Sport or "S" mode and drive it like a manual. Been doing this for about 2 weeks. With my previous oil change driving using D, the trip computer showed ave FC of 13.6km/l. Reset the trip computer after the oil change.
Same route for the past 2 weeks and I'm getting 15.5 km/l with manual shifting. Went as high as 16.2 km/l highway speeds of 100 to 140 kmh. Went down with city traffic.
To do this, put the tranny in S then just use the paddle shifters to shift manually. It will downshift by itself if your speed goes to low. From 5th gear, it will shift to 4th gear at around 40 kmh then to 3rd gear at slightly below 30 kmh. It does not like 2nd gear and just goes to 1st gear at full stop. I upshift manually.
Maintenance cost is around 4000 pesos per 10,000 kms. I just change my oil every 10,000 kms. Honda says 6 months or 10,000 kms whichever comes 1st. I just do every 10K and so far so good. They never said anything about warranty issues. My unit was part of the recall and they just did it no questions asked.

As with the Jazz, I believe you can do the same (shifting manually) while in "D" mode. It can override upshifts and downshift. Case in point, you are at 5th gear at 100kph and wants to overtake the bus infront of you. Simply find if the coast is clear, tap the left paddle to downshift to 4th gear for a better powerband and overtake. You can also tap the paddle to upshift if you think the tranny is holding the gear a bit too long on too low. All while in "D".

January 4th, 2012 08:20 PM #16Yes you can do it in D mode. But the AT has a habit of downshifting and it likes to spend a long time in 1st gear. I used to do this in D mode but I find the S mode works better. The thing I dont like with manual shifting in D mode is I sometimes dont know what gear its in. Happened a few times when overtaking, thought I was in 5th gear so downshifted, turned out the AT already downshifted to 4th so I went into 3rd gear.

January 6th, 2012 03:53 PM #18As others have already mentioned the important points, i think it's worth considering that the Vios replacement is out next year.
Hassle kapag yung 1 year old car mo, luma na.

Depends also... You can get generous discounts that way.
I purposely bought my 2007 Altis before the 10th gen was released so the price i got after the discount was not far off from a second gen Vios 1.3 E which was also just released that time.
If they give good discounts on the current Yaris a/t this year, we might consider one as well.

January 6th, 2012 04:04 PM #20On the other side of the coin though, we were able to obtain our 06 FD at nearer to the price of the ES model. Introductory price daw.
Since then, halos 100k yung tinaas ng same variant from 2006 to 2011.
You do have a valid point though. Discounts plus the fact na mas 'mature' na yung technology and various problems that appeared in the previous models should have already been fixed by the end of its lifetime. Yun nga lang, I'm a sucker for cutting edge haha
Well, up to TS to decide what's more important to them at this point in time.
Will wonders never cease with Motolite? Ha ha.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
