    Civic SI - 2.0 K20z3 engine, 197hp/7,800rpm, 6-speed, 138lb/ft /6,800rpm of torque, FWD with Limited Slip Differential, non-turbo, 0-100pkh in 5.8sec

    power/acceleration - WRX
exterior - both, depends on your taste. WRX looks aggressive while the Si is ***ier.
interior - i'll go for the SI plus its a bit bigger, though 2nd row is tight i think.
price - in phil, WRX is P1.73M while SI is P2M(gray market).
maintenance - SI, daming casa ng Honda dyan
fuel consumption - WRX would be a gazzler coz of the turbo. heard that SI has a really descent consumption.

for me....i like the WRX for its power and AWD, but SI has a better interior.
looks are just the same though they differ.

5.8 seconds to 100 from the Si? Now that's too much truth-stretching. A mid-6 time should be more realistic.

For everyday driving, the Si should be easier to live with. It has a nicer dashboard, a better sounding engine that should use less fuel than the WRX, and should also have a better ride. I'd choose the WRX if I'm at the track often. But although 4WD has better front grip than FWD, the WRX is still notorious for understeer, unless it's equipped with the torque adjuster, which can transfer upto 2/3 of it to the rear wheels.

I think the new active differential should cure some of that understeer... but the autocross boys on the Mazda board say that the WRX is a lot more understeery through the cones than the Protege/Lynx.

The Si should prove to be fun through the autocross, a bit lighter, LSD, and sharp steering... but I'm still wishing on a Jazz Si or Type R... that baby does the 300 ft slalom at over 70 mph... one of the few "cheap cars" besides the Protege that has done that in "stock" trim.

But a Jazz or Fit-R would be pricey... 200 hp K20s are still at around 200k+

^^a beefier rear sway bar and light suspension mods should do the trick in eliminating that understeer.

OT: Protege's are really fun to drive i used to have a slightly modded 03 Protege 5

I was going to say a lighter front... but a beefier rear does make more sense.

*sigh* Protege5... too bad they never brought in the Aussie version here (Ford Laser/Lynx 5-door with the 2.0)... seriously OT... hehe... just love the car.

Remove the WRX from that list and put in the up coming SE-R and you'd have a more equal comparison because all will fwd.

    Mazdaspeed 3, 2.3L turbo, 263hp/280lb-ft
    Civic SI, 2L, 197hp/139lb-ft
    VW GTI, 2L turbo, 200hp/207lb-ft
    Sentra SE-R V Spec, 2.5L, 200hp/180lb-ft
Chevy Cobalt SS, 2L Supercharged, 205hp/200lb-ft

As you can see the Civic falls far short in terms of torque which is what you need to accelerate. The Mazda AFAIK is close to what the stock internals can take at it's current boost level. The GTI can put out more hp with just a chip and isn't even close what the stock internals can take. Sentra is most likey at it's max as a normally aspirated motor. Cobalt can be bought from the dealer with stage 1 or stage 2 kits to make it put out 270hp with a manufacturer warranty.

Horsepower wise they can come close to a WRX but handling will be another story all together. The limitations of fwd vs awd is what makes the WRX a better vehicle. I drove my nephews Vishnu modded WRX with the 2L boxer which was up to STI territory in horsepower. I still can't believe the speed I was able to take corners in that car, only the EVO we test drove comes close. The acceleration was even more amazing with 2nd gear good for 70mph=112km/h and that was still with the stock turbo. Too bad he sold it for a BMW 3 series.

Heres a comparison made with some of the cars mentioned above.

....and they are both in the P2.0M category in our shore.
mazdaspeed 3 at standout is 2.2M, i'll rather get the STI or Evo9 for that.
