February 3rd, 2020 01:14 AM #1Hey guys. Just wanted to get your opinion on the local Pajero Ck diesel and the gen1 Hyundai Veracruz. Could you please share your thoughts on:
1) driving comfort as the driver
2) riding comfort as the passenger on 2nd row
3) reliability especially the injectors and the pump
4) fuel economy in city and highway and mixed
5) parts availability
6) interior finish and quality
7) other thoughts
8) common issues
9) ease of driving
Your ownership experience would be appreciated.
Will mostly be city driven with occasional soft roading so something very comfortable in traffic will be great.
Please let me know. Hope to hear from you cheers!

February 8th, 2020 12:48 AM #2CK owner here.
7-8km/li city traffic
The plastic in the aircon louvers tend to go bad
Aside from that interior is good. Plastics are textured, lots of leather
Steering wheel ratio is quite a lot of turns to go from lock to lock
Visibility is great (one thing I miss with modern cars and SUVs)
The 3.2li diesel is very unstressed and has power to keep up with modern PPVs. A cheap (€129) off-the-shelf piggyback from a vendor like RaceChip will give it close to 200hp.
I do recall the injector pump was a huge issue because of expensive repairs, but with fuel getting cleaner and cleaner it should be less of a problem now (similar to BMW's old Nikasil problem that is now basically solved by low-sulfur gasoline even without changing anything).
Compared to a modern engine though it is relatively noisy and still has that old-school diesel clatter
Parts availability is ok. The solenoids that control the EGR and 4WD system are often interchangeable with the Gen 2/2.5 Pajero, and it's easy to get parts from Amazon or Ebay.
Veracruz is obviously a more modern car. It came out the year the Pajero CK went off the market, and the CK had been around since 1999. The 3.0li diesel is a lot more powerful. Can't give feedback on the ownership experience though.

An alumni of our high school has a Veracruz, the only one I know. Anak kasi siya ng chairwoman ng HARI. [emoji28]
