June 6th, 2006 04:38 PM #1Well today i just came from Blumentrett i looked around at the various surplus shops, And i got my eyes layed on either a Isuzu NA 4JG2 which cost 65-70k or Mitsubishi 4DR7 48k i couldnt find a 4JB1 but i saw a 4DR6 Turbo for 38000.I chose these engines because they are both 12 volts no need to convert electricals. Which do you guys prefer?how is the power from these engines? are parts easy to find?I will be putting it in my wrangler.I would greatly appreciate your opinions on these engines.tnx

June 9th, 2006 11:58 AM #3I have the turbo version of the 4jg2 engine in my trooper and i can personally vouch for its durability-no problem at all at 140,000 kms. Of course if you're buying a surplus unit you'll have to carefully check its condition first. Good luck!

we have a good experience with our 4jg2 engine (w/ turbo). so far, genuine parts are available naman sa binondo/banawe. nasa 170,000kms na mileage nya pero ganda parin ang performance. we already change the timing belt, water pump, tensioner bearing just for preventive maintenance.

June 10th, 2006 12:57 PM #6Sir gary the 4DR7 is 2.8 NA diesel 88hp *3600rpm. It only cost 46-47K in blumentrett. The toyota 2LTII cost 40-45k. I was wondering how will the 4DR7 perform with my hilux differential? Its only a 2wd.I also like the 2LT but i am afraid of the overheating problem..Does the 2LT realy have a bad reputation?Or is it just a misunderstanding or defective cooling system? The best thing i like about the 4DR7 is its low end tourqe and timing gears.

June 10th, 2006 10:22 PM #7Honestly ngayon ko lang nalaman yan 4DR7. Mitsubishi ba yan? Kung 40-45K budget mo then get a 4D56 tdic engine. Marami parts, simple i-maintain. The 4JG2 is also a good engine but mas mahal and piyesa hindi ganun karami compared sa 4D56 (pero meron naman). Yung sa 2L na engine just change the thermostat and make sure the cooling syst is working well and you will avoid the cracked cylinder head problem.
