September 22nd, 2010 01:55 AM #61Kaya nga ‘part’ eh, sabi ko ‘part’ diba? “Part of my evaluation of cars and in deciding if it’s a worthy buy is the reputation of the brand”. The principal buyer of the Hilux was my Father, pero before that the idea was he needed a car where he can do a lot of loading without caring if the car gets dirty, unang idea nga nya Fortuner. But I gave the suggestion of a Pick-up, and narrowed it down to Hilux at Strada. Alam ko ang merits ng Strada, pumunta pa nga ako sa used car lot and found him a fresh 2008 Strada to look into, but in the end sya na nag decide that we will go for the Hilux, brand new. Like I said if we bought the Strada I’m sure I will be just as happy. I’m not a tool, I don’t have brand loyalty. I’ve owned a 1988 BMW 528i (luma na when I got it (1999)), a Kia Pride (really wasn’t my choice), Lancer GSR, 2001 Nissan Exalta, and now 2005 Civic.
I don’t know what video you saw it sure isn’t the video I watched. In the video it explains class sizes of cars, didn’t really give my example of Yaris vs. Thaurus; that was just my own example to illustrate compact vs full size sedan, despite the fact that compact has a 5 star safety rating it wouldn’t win against a 4 star rated full sized sedan. Ok, to reinstate the point, I’ll give you another example. Take the strada, 4 star safety rating, take the Civic 5 star safety rating. Let me ask you where would you rather be if the two cars where to collide head on 50kph? Here’s hoping you said the Strada, cause if you where in the Civic your probably dead, sa Strada may chance ka pa.
You know…I think the ocean with its waves and salt water will tell a different story. I’m sure any of the current gen pickups can go into a river have it submerged to the windows and the ECU will be fine. Kung digicam nga ngayon pwede na under water, even salt water kayang kaya, bakit hinde.
That’s noble and all, but there’s something called brand loyalty and I know there are people who would swear to the brand and cars they buy. I know people who would buy every generation Corolla, or every generation 3 series, every gen... Dahil sa merits ng predecessors.

Forgive me for interfering with your heated discussion with sir niky....
but I just want to ask you something if you dont mind...
So by saying this..
(its not that I'm trying to put words on your mouth or anything) but does it imply that you didn't actually mean what you said in the other thread?
again, forgive me if I imported it herebut being a strada owner I really feel weary on reading things like this, while knowing the true capabilities of my rig...

No argument with your choice. If you need a car that can take a heavy load, the Hilux was a good choice. Amongst pickups, the Hilux has one of the best load capacities and a heavy duty rear end.
Unless the video showed an actual test, it's just conjecture. There are videos showing that five-star (on US tests... the cars used are 4-star on EuroNCAP) subcompacts are not as good as five-star full-sized cars. But there are also videos showing that 5-star (on EuroNCAP) compacts are much safer than older full-sized cars. There is no empirical data showing that 4-star full sized cars are safer than 5-star compact cars.
Wanna go ask the countless pick-up and SUV owners who had to plunk down on a new ECU after Ondoy?Only a few current pick-ups have fully waterproofed ECUs.
But the question is: is that the best way to buy a car? Buying merely the perception of quality instead of the reality of it? Would you recommend that people simply buy a car because the brand name has merit? Buy a CR-V because it's a "Honda" and Honda means good engineering? Even if the second-generation CR-V was a terrible gas guzzler (3rd gen is actually good)? Buy a Camry because it's a "Toyota" and Toyotas are cheap to maintain? Buy a 4JX1 Trooper because it's an "Isuzu", and Isuzu makes good diesels? I'd rather give them advice based on the merits of the vehicle as a whole.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

September 22nd, 2010 09:57 AM #64Hey you got me there.
I really ment it, like I said in my previous post, maganda na kung maganda ang Strada specially at the front, but then look at it from side view, what comes to mind is "what happend to the bed" the hood and double cab is huge, round and long? Someone said it best in this thread, iba ang definition ng Pinoy buyers when it comes to double cab pickup trucks, hindi yun utility ang top concern nila, but yung tinatawag "status symbol".
Also its part of my frustration when I searched the forums read all kinds of crap in the Strada Vs. Hilux Threads. Something about the moose test something about your spine falling off, its ugly, its not safe death trap..now that you'd think about it its pretty funny. you'd swear Hilux is a piece of garbage after reading some of the comments, was hoping sana one of those guys would read it and call me out on a debate.but yeah I admit that wasnt a fair comment by me. But say my Pops went for the Strada, I'd be happy, but I think I'd still be causing trouble and defending the Hilux

Well Mitsubishi is a business and they are giving what the market wants. Stylish and urban trucks... And as a result the Strada is the best selling pick up in the market. Nothing wrong with giving what buyers want.

More on utility ang Ranger,Navara,D-Max at Hilux while ang Strada eh pang porma talaga pero at least mura lang sya.

well sir, point well taken(^_^) pero wag naman siguro poser truck hehe...because you see sir, the thing that you said about what filipinos refer to as a '"status symbol" which has a short bed and long cabin and often referred to as a city truck so to speak
can go to places not the regular guy would drive on using his truck.....I'm not saying the hilux is incapable of doing such things or any other truck in that case. heck, I can even believe that all of them are capable enough, But in the end it will still be all up to the owners guts on where to take his truck and how far can he go on exploring the limits of its performance...
BTW heres one of the places that I'm talking about...

Nagagamit din namang utility ang Strada, in fact maraming fleet sa mga cement plant/quarry. For the price of 9 of the other brands makakabili na ng 11 na Strada. Mura talaga yung low end variant. Ang sabi medyo mahal lang ang PMS. Is this true? Baka dun naman bumabawi ang MMCP.
For me maganda style-wise ang Strada, sa rear end lang kinulang. I don't like the way the bed tapers down too much, the brake lights and the rear bumper.
E sa lahat ng bagay mas important sa akin ang may nice bum kesa front bumpers.

Dapat dalhin ng MMPC dito yung Strada na mas mahaba ang cargo bed na available sa other countries.

September 22nd, 2010 06:18 PM #70Wow! Adrenaline rush! I wish NCP could organize something like this for its members (I own a Nav). Bro, makaka survive kaya ang "stock" pickup (any 4x4 brand or sige na nga, a Nav for example) sa ganitong offroad condition? Your truck seems to have had some modifications already.
It's about 1 cm longer than the 3SM and about 4 cm longer than the DIN74. And it's also in the 10k...
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
