What makes the Civic Sir more special than the Civic Vti? I can see there's a large Price difference in their resale value ?

Please search... lots of topics on this already.

But basically, the SiR is a sports edition with a very expensive engine (160hp B16A) and a stiffer suspension, while the VTi is the top-of-the-line regular Civic, with a regular 1.6 liter engine. There are no other compact economy sedans that are as quick as the SiR (heck, many V6s are slower), so demand and asking price is high. That's all.

    Thanks for the quick Reply..

kasi I saw a SIR, pareho lang itsura nila sa Vti.. very minimal ang difference sa look.

When you say expensive engine, does it mean price of parts? When we say Quick or Fast, does it mean natakaw sa Gas or same with VTi?

Niky, would you pick a SIR (450t with 20T mileage) over a CRV (400T)?

450K is kind of on the high side, but if it's fresh... try to get them down to 400k and call it a deal.

The SiR's fuel consumption is okay if you drive it moderately. Not as good as the VTis, but a match for most other 1.6s. It's only when you drive it fast that it starts drinking like a sailor. (Fast as in revving it to its 8000 rpm redline all the time).

The B16A is an expensive engine. Meaning, it costs roughly three times as much for Honda to make than the VTi's D16 engine (no, that's not verbatim fact, but it's a good guess). Buy it secondhand and it costs about three to four times as much as a regular 1.6.

This is because it is built especially strong to take the high engine speeds needed for a 1.6 to make 160-170 horsepower. To put that into perspective, amongst "regular" engines, you'd need a 2.5 liter engine to make that much power. Most engines are rev limited from 6000 - 7000 rpm. You can bomb the SiR off of its 8000+ rpm rev limiter without blowing it up (don't do it too long, though... )... a speed most other engines would shake themselves apart at.

I'd definitely pick the SiR over a CR-V. Better fuel economy, easier to drive, faster, cheaper parts (for the non-SiR specific parts... for the engine, parts may cost more) and easier to park. But that's me. Some people like the height of the CRV (for flood fording supposedly... but the CRV is not an off-roadable vehicle) and the size and space.

Thanks again for the quick reply..

Mas sariwa nga ang SIR, parang 20T lang ang mileage. House-to-work lang gamit.

Kasi alam ko at 400T, we can get a 2001 Vti na, I heard mas maganda na ang suspension at maganda na ang panel... of course, newer look din.

    Tama ba ako?

The 2001 VTi has a softer suspension set-up. For some people, that's better... but it's all in what you're used to. For me, I believe the older Civic suspension gives much better body control.

Kung sariwa at all-stock, it's a decent car to get. It's not the best family car, but it's a classic, and, if it's all-stock (especially if it's all stock, it'll be a head-turner). Set aside some money for suspension repairs (just in case may kalampag) and you'll be fine.
