I'd go with any of the compacts - Mazda3, Focus, Civic, Altis, Elantra, or Lancer. If you want a zippy drive and fun to drive car for less than 1M, go with the Fiesta Ecoboost. Maybe you can consider some used but not abused cars (2010 or younger) for half of its original selling price like the Subaru Legacy GT, Honda Accord 3.5V, Mazda 6 (previous gen). These mid-sizers have enough legroom, very comfortable, but no slouch in terms of performance.

NOTHING beats a test drive of your target vehicle.
Maybe this can help:
Auto Focus to hold 2014 test drive festival at MOA - Auto News
There would be numerous models from 14 carmakers to choose from. Good luck!

well, if you fell in love with the mazda..then that's the car for you...non of our inputs will really matter and the fact that it will be your first car...buy whatever caught your eye..ikaw naman mag drive niyang for the next 5 years...
and mazda is a good car anyway. your height would not really matter unless you'll be getting the mini cars

Sir Renzokuken,
Since first car nyo po, preferred na brand new po ang bilhin nyo, kung open naman po kayo in 2nd hand, between 2012 and 2013 model, (camry & accord) or low mileage at pag naka-tyempo kayo na car owner lalo na pag kilala nyo, and sacrifice sale ng sasakyan, go for it.
kung brand new sedan,
altis, mazda 3, civic, lancer,
kung meron quite stretch sa budget, 2.5 G camry..

November 4th, 2014 12:02 PM #18Warning: This is a megapost
By "generic" I mean very common and sobrang dami nang may Innova. May pagkahipster ako minsan e haha but of course its just a minor concern.
I was also considering Cruze kasi based I heard okay din leg room niya. But yeah, best to check it via a test drive
It is quite "guapo" I agree esp the latest current design.
Thanks! I do fit in comfortably in an Innova. It's just that siguro I like to read feedback from other users' other cars baka kasi I'm missing something out and I'm focusing too much on my main criteria.
Sorry but what do you mean by "anemic engine?" Im not quite familiar with this phrase.
Agree the Cruze looks outdated. It needs a lift.
But based on your post I can probably live with the boring or the slow one.
Thanks!
lol quite tempting tbh! if I had extra money I'd get it. Kaya lang I'm leaning towards buying a new one since like I said, the money is hard-earned!
Oooh, another one for Ecoobost. Can you tell me more why its fun to drive it?
Agree! And thank you for this!
Thanks! But I find its looks a bit boring.
Right now the Mazda is really one of the top contenders. However I believe its good to ask for others opinions as well especially those who are knowledgeable and updated when it comes to cars. Besides the leg room concern, looks and budget I'm worried I might be missing some important stuff that can later on be a game changer (like I never really considered resale value and FC that much before compared to now)
Thanks!
Yeah, I would only consider buying a 2nd hand if its coming from someone I know and I can trust.
I can only go as high as 1m pag cash. Actually yung 1.2m through bank/installment is quite a stretch na nga for me.

When I say anemic I mean that the engine isnt very powerful.
The Mazda 3 1.5's engine feels short on power especially since it only has 112 hp and the car weighs over 1300 kg. Furthermore, much of the torque comes in the midrange (3000 rpm and above) so you really have to rev it to get some power.
You won't notice it unless you've driven many other cars. It's adequate in the sense that it has enough grunt for city driving and even tame highway driving, but if you're used to driving torquey cars with bigger engines, you'll really feel the difference.

If 1.2M really is in the equation, i dare say that you go for the M/T versions of the MU-x or the Montero Sport. Forget the sedans as size matters, especially for a very tall person like you. These suv's retain their value very well, and if you do your part, are as robust as they come. and may i add: these babies in pearl white really rock!

Will wonders never cease with Motolite? Ha ha.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
