May 3rd, 2010 12:14 PM #1Guys,
I always thought the leader in diesel engines is ISUZU but there are now 2 people I know that say HYUNDAI has taken over from ISUZU in diesel engine technology. They both said HYUNDAI CRDI is the best out there.
Is this true? I thought the ISUZU 4JJ1 is the best out there today?
I guess the criteria would be
Fuel economy (considering the same displacement)
Low maintenance
Durability
Power
Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hyundai.
Numbers don't lie.
Durability? Hyundai uses Bosch injectors (the best out there since it's German).
Power? Hyundai R 2.2L CRDI 220hp/461Nm (local version was detuned to 200hp).
Now compare these data to the 4JJ1 3.0L

Hyundai.
They're more modern now and gives much more power than what Isuzu offers in their engines.

May i remind you sir that it's so easy to compare things in paper, but we're always missing the overall perspective in durability, injectors alone doesn't prove it all...The 4JJ1 engine wasn't built in horsepower alone but also for fuel economy...It was not only Hyundai and Isuzu that you can compare nowadays in diesel engine technology, and of course the much debated power...Checkout Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota etc., Maybe we'll see all the answers in the years to come which one stands out.....

Fuel economy,
ISUZU.
Durability is still yet unknown since CRDi technology has only been out for several years unlike the old-school diesels who've been out for more than a decade.
Speed and acceleration power goes to the CRDi equipped vehicles, for sure.

Isuzu, hands down reliability. yung 4jj1 dito is not the full version of that engine. I thinks its called super common rail. Out put and torque comparabe to mitsu and toyota. (mounted on a Ladder-frame chassis)
Out right performance hyundai diesel, wins. (mounted on a car based SUV)
But you have to draw the line which is better for what use? Isuzu's are truck specialist Large displacement diesel engines, while hyundai makes small displacement diesel engines. And both use Bosch injectors.
Blue-labeled Motolite Gold are factory-supplied OEM batteries with only 1 year warranty.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
