I'm just glad I'm of the generation that grew up learning to drive on an M/T. And even though I have since been driving an A/T in the last couple of decades, I can still drive any M/T vehicle (car or bike) like a pro.

That clutch muscle memory just stays with you forever.

I learned something new last saturday when climbing uphill.... While depressing the brake and clutch, you slowly let go of the clutch while brake is still depress. Then if you felt the engine is shaking you quickly shift your right leg to the gas pedal and your vehicle will not move backward. This is something new as I was thought before to quickly shift to clutch and gas pedal climbing uphill so my vehicle would move backwards a bit.

    personally,
i do it much faster than how it is narrated here.
    practice makes perfect.
and yes, when it comes to incline hanging, not all cars are equal. it is easier to do it on other cars.
    heh heh.

Are you practicing method 1 or method 2 dr. d during climbing uphill or an incline?

you can feel if the vehicle will or will not be able to do the uphill climb.
if it can, then i don't shift down anymore.
if it can't, then i shift to lower gear and higher gas.
i do not think of the other vehicles which might think i am going too slow.
the left lane is wide open for overtakers.

I mean coming from a full stop going uphill do you use method 1 or 2?

coming from a full stop, going up the hill,
is just like starting to move the car from a full stop.

step on clutch (and brake, if you feel so), and put it in primera.
then step on the gas as you simultaneously slowly release the clutch. this is crucial, because if you don't mix it right, either your car will stall, or your car will shoot forward fast.
    and up we go!
along the way, if you feel you can shift to segunda, do so. your car will complain if this is a wrong decision, naman.

    I use either:

    A.

    - Apply handbrake
    - put in first gear
    - press on accelerator gently
    - slowly release clutch
    - release handbrake, slowly reducing the brake force

    B. As you described it.

I think that works for diesels or large displacement engines. A smaller car might stall.
Not healthy for the engine either as you're lugging it (the fact that the engine is shaking means it's under very high load).
