Owned a Ford before. Even had turbo problems (check engine light on my 2.2 Ranger) but Ford handled it decently. Pricey PMS 8-10k per 10,000 km but not so bad. I would say it's still worth it to buy a Ford. They have problematic models like the Fiesta and Focus, but the Everest seems pretty solid so far.
The Everest is a much better SUV than the MUX if you ask me. Looks better, drives better, has more features.

January 24th, 2017 11:06 PM #133MU-X and Everest Trend have similar features, both already have stability & traction control which is an overlooked safety tech. MU-X has an overhead screen and reverse camera. Everest has electric steering and curtain airbags over the Isuzu. Looks-wise, I like the more understated look of the Isuzu but that's subjective.
Having said that, I feel the Trend has more value for money. I say risk it if you're only keeping it in the medium term (say five years), but I'm still not sold on the underdisplaced motor.
If you plan on keeping it for ten years or more, go with Isuzu. Understressed B10 motor, reliability will be there, parts and maintenance won't be an issue. Resale value will hold up well, you won't have problems looking for buyers from the provinces.

Having driven both the first 2.2 and the updated one on the Everest, I can say that the new motor is more responsive with much less turbo lag. In fact if noone told you it had a 2.2 engine you wouldn't think it was stressed at all.
The MUX may not have a stressed engine, but it's you who'll get stressed with the engine noise.

January 25th, 2017 12:46 AM #135Response isn't the issue with a low displacement, high output motor, just longevity. That's why I still prefer the understressed MU-X for long term usage, think a decade or more in service. As regards NVH, dunno if you've driven the Mu-X already, there's just a low-pitched sound with a hiss of the turbo at the 1500rpm. Revving it above 2k is when you'll hear diesel clatter. Everest is the better vehicle definitely, just might not be the best for long-term abuse.

Yes I've driven the MUX and its engine is nowhere as refined as the competition at any rev range.
I understand the concerns on longevity, although I noticed that people only raise the concern for the Everest with its 2.2L 160hp engine. If you look at HP/liter, the Everest makes 73 HP/L while the Montero makes 75 HP/L yet noone bats an eyelash about its low displacement, high output nature. Also, Isuzu also employs a 1.9L 150HP engine on its MUX and that makes 79 HP/L.
I'm sure back in the day there were also naysayers who were doubting the high output of CRDi engines over their old-school counterparts. Save for a few misses like the Trooper's 4JX1, CRDis have generally been a big leap forward.
Now with more advanced VGTs, manufacturers are able to make more power and torque from smaller engines, so "overstressed" is really relative once you consider the tech involved. For this reason I'm not really concerned that the Everest has a smaller displacement than the rest of the bunch.

Majority of vehicle owners use their vehicles in traffic daily ... they hardly subject their engines to "stress" ...
How much room do you have between the battery terminals and the hood seeing the the 3SM is much...
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
