    i do not know if we are refering to the same issue, but,

    in the past,
    owners of a popular car were complaining that their cars' engines died, stranding them in the middle of their trips.
    after some investigation, it was determined that the fuel pump was at fault, having seized frozen in the course of its duty.
    at about the same time, the same problem started getting complained about in the other car brands.
    it seemed, they were all supplied by the same fuel pump supplier...

    is it happening all over again?

    Thanks to LOLZ for the insights and for the model information of the CVT.

    Doing further on-paper reliability comparison, I'm currently leaning towards the 'old' Innova.

    AC60E 6A/T on the Innova 2.8 vs K120 CVT on the Zenix:

    The failure mode is more benign than that global issue in that fuel odors are observed in the engine bay due to fuel seeping out of the high pressure fuel pump. Allegedly there is corrosion involved but the issue is currently limited to and being recalled in the US market and limited to the A25A and 2GR-FKS.

    The EGR one is far more serious as it could dump coolant into the cylinder and according to toyota is due to corrosion from fuel contaminated with chlorine and was observed in certain regions in europe and china. Toyota stance on the EGR issue is mixed with europe not being covered by warranty due to chlorine being a fuel contaminant but seems to be a norm for the fuel in china for them to issue a recall and replace the part with a revised composite unit instead of the original all-aluminum unit.

    This is around 2M price range right? I might gamble and get the Custin at this price range more luxurious inside hehe

    The Innova G and the Zenyx V are only in the 1.6M price range.

    You're probably looking at the Zenyx Q (HEV), which I am not looking to get. Also, not a Hyndai fan, so Custin is out.

    Fuel economy may be an issue i think top gear got 5km/l with theirs in heavy traffic

    Get the Toyota Zenix ... enjoy the ride comfort ... by the time you sell it ... the value difference between a Toyota Zenix and Toyota Innova will be only a couple of hundred Gs ... won't be worth that much by then ... and no ... no Hyundai Custin ... Koreans don't age well ...

    Thank you for all the comments and insights. After evaluating everything, which included test-driving a co-worker's Zenix, I've decided to go with the 2024 Innova G 2.8 A/T.

    Main reasons I chose the "G":
    1. Ladder-frame robustness
    2. RWD
    3. Significantly more powerful engine which can still be economical at a press of a button
    4. Being the last MMC of this generation, most or all of the bugs and kinks from the earlier iterations have been worked out

    I've had my 1st gen 2016 Innova for close to 9 years (bought in mid-2015) and have had zero powertrain and suspension problems aside from having to replace the alternator pulley and other consumable parts (ie. brakes, tires, battery). There's not even a kalampag to speak of. This was also the last MMC of its generation and I can attribute to that the trouble-free experience I had with it.

    I will miss out on the latest tech on the Zenix for sure, but it is substantially weaker than its predecessor in most other respects, IMO.
