3 yrs ago just like any Filipina nurse in the US retired and went back to Phil. 2 yrs ago she asked her boys for a car so just like any loving Filipino children we say ok. She picked a Toyota Camry AT that cost i think P1.3M thats around US $27K, thinking she got the V6 top of the line Camry, but last year we visited her saw the Camry it was almost basic pretty disappointed we payed that much for it. Last night I was reading that camry, accord & legacy and made me wonder how much is a mid size car in phil. so I googled and found this Toyota Philippines site w/ a price list. a camry listed as P1,451,000 or US$31,000 I'm sure thats not fix price and can still go down but I was wow thats high.

Why is it more expensive? I was thinking is it the TAX? I always think in the US specially in California we get screwed in tax, everything is taxed here. I'm not just talking about camry i also looked at yaris Just curious...

holly crap thats almost $50,000, I was thinking my tita go screwed paying her 2009 prius for $35,000+.
Taxes (virtually all cars are imports even if some are locally assembled), low volume of sales (as compared to other countries), expensive overhead (showroom, salaries, executives, etc)...

Face it. The pricing-scheme here in the Phils is just crazy. As in literally CRAZY. Stupid taxes.
The prado is priced ( I think ) 3.5m.

The Ford Focus here in the Philippines is the European Mark II. And taxes are as low as they can get for it, since it's assembled locally. All it gets is VAT.
Gives you an idea of why Ford doesn't want to update their Focus to the Mark II in the US. It'd cost more than it does now.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I dont even want to know the used car value in Phil. made me understand why Filipino that have car even thou its a Hyundai, Kia or that China made one (for got the name) they have pride & heads are high, may be its the same feeling when I bought my first car when I was in high school working at taco bell
made me appreciate my cars more. Hope by the time my turn to retire in Phil. buying a car is much better, taxes will be lower (slim chance of that happening), selection are better and street roads are better... o yeah really impressed on the new freeway NLEX (I think thats the name) last year drove on it smooth drive from Angeles Pampanga to Olongapo city SBMA, only 3 or 4 cars on it wow
sad I was not in a sports car

Cars are really expensive here. For most Pinoys, buying a car would mean a 10-15 year usage.

I agree with you TS. Cars are way too expensive in the Philippines. Hindi lang yata price of cars ang expensive sa Pilipinas.
Hindi kasi uso sa Pilipinas ang baba presyo...
It's about 1 cm longer than the 3SM and about 4 cm longer than the DIN74. And it's also in the 10k...
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
