Value variants for these particular models are:
Lancer (although rare) 1.8 MX Limited. Mitsubishi Motors Releases 2005 Lancer 1.8 MX Limited - Auto News by AutoIndustriya.com
Civic VTi-S <--because of the safety feature not available with the VTi variant.
Altis E <-- the simplest machine of the bunch. Probably the easiest to maintain. Decent performer due to its efficient engine and very light weight (for its class).
The Lancer and Civic have better suspension for a more spirited driving though.
Ultimate tip: always go for the best maintained unit. It's hard to stick with any model above as condition of the actual unit is more important IMO. A good conditioned unit of any of the above won't give you regrets, that's for sure. All nice models.

If you can find a Civic 2.0 i-VTEC (2004-2005) in very good condition, this will be a better choice. They are priced around the same in the used market as Civic 1.6L VTi/VTi-S facelifted models (2003-2005). FC will be bit lower but the K20 engine (same as the 7th gen 2.0L Accords) on it has more output.

June 1st, 2013 01:17 AM #4value for money? sounds like a car salesman's pitch..
in my opinion, this translates to, which car has more toys.. and toys, like beauty, are always subjective.
heh heh.

June 1st, 2013 01:35 AM #5I'd go for the Civic if I want something refined and exciting. For an efficient and simple appliance for daily driving to and from work, the Altis is for you.
I have a friend who owns an FD 2.0S, he gets around 5-6km/L. I'd stay away from the 2.0i-VTEC unless gas mileage is unimportant. Maybe you'd like to check out the Lynx RS as well.

*GTi - Is the 2.0L Civic FD that bad on FC? And the 2.0L Civic ES as well?
The Lancer Cedia is also not known for good FC. There were posts here of members complaining of 6-7 Km/L. The newer Lancer EX (even with the early 2.0L models) have better FC figures.

2004 Civic ES 1.6L is actually 1.7L.
The suspension is the only weakness. Every 2 years, the compliance bushing gets busted.

June 1st, 2013 09:02 PM #9Well, that's what he told me. But then again the K20 engine has never been known for fuel efficiency. Most notable example being the 2nd gen CRV matics. I also remember niky saying that the FD 2.0 is supposedly more fuel efficient than the ES 2.0 due to different ECU tuning.
