I had a "horner-type" myself. Used it when I was still in college.
Bought second-hand. It was standard sized - original MB size. with 14" banana type alloy mags (sumisingaw yun, pag di ko nailabas ng two days, tatawag na ako ng tricycle para dalhin ko yung gulong sa nearest gas station at bobombahan ko). Toyota 5R ang engine. Pero pang 4K yung carb. original tires nun e 70 ang aspect ratio, mukhang pang biyaheng sucat - baclaran.
Daming mali sa pagka-assemble nun. lalo na dun sa front axle. nung naka 70 aspect ratio, the tires hit the leaf springs when doing a max turn. so i switched to a 60. dANG! na-lowered. there was a time when my uncle drove it, nalubak and you know what happened? nabasag yung fan....huh! bakit? upon investigation we found out that the engine swayed too much to the side and the fan hit the battery platform. so we relocated the battery, replaced the engine mounts and changed the fan to the asbestos type.
na-topak si oyil, bumili ng lowering blocks, 2"......had to relocate the leaf springs further ahead because it will hit the engine oil pan. Nalubak! then i had to buy a brand new radiator and relocate it higher. when i drive it around the subdivision, i had to do the "slice" manuever on speed bumps. because the transmission oil pan will scrape it.
the leaf spring are hard, kaya matag-tag pag mag-isa ako. kasya 10 tao.
it developed an internal leak where the engine oil wets one of the park plugs. this caused a rough idle, as one of the cylinders doesnt give consistent combustion. Ang solution, used platinum tip spark plugs. since then i didnt change spark plugs. nililinis lang and inaayos ulit yung spacing nung friend kong mechanic for free (classmate ko nung high-school).
I had the body replaced kasi maraki nang butas yung flooring sa kalawang. I drove the horner to cavite, umabot ako ng dasmarinas, sa tabi ng sabungan. pinasukatan at nagpagawa ng bagong body. lowered 3 - yung flooring tinaas ng 3 inches para magmukhang lowered pa. had the body delivered to san miguel, bulacan at dun namin pinatira - kapatid ng barkada ng kuya ko. ayan mukhang bago na. drive ko pauwi, walang tail lights kaya di ako dumaan ng highway. from san miguel, bulacan to paranaque. nangatog yung mga hita ko kakatapak ng clutch at brakes. maryosep.
then me and my friend had the piston rings replaced.
ngayon wala na. nabenta na sa magtutubig. kawawang horner, naghahatak na ng tangke ng tubig. tumatakbo pa kaya? i dont know.
Sa reliability OK, di pa ako tinirik that i had to leave it.
