However, note that Japanese kei car manufacturers often provide bigger engines for models that are exported or manufactured abroad (Maruti Alto, which is being sold here as the Suzuki Alto) and at times even expand the body beyond kei car specs (such as the Suzuki Wagon R Wide).

For me, if you are not in Japan (and therefore, won't benefit from the advantages of owning a kei car) the specifications are not as important (unless you are an aficionado with a purist belief). What is more important is that you enjoy your ride.
Colleague, thanks for your reply. I believe you've inadvertently read my LJ80's overall dimensions. The overall length of my rig is 3190mm only. However, my LJ80's engine exceeds the engine spec of said "Kei" car.

I think the demand for such "kei" car would benefit the consumers worldwide. Perhaps that's why they retrofit style, space, comfort et.al.

In 4x4 world, I guess I'm a purist when it comes to Suzuki. I do however don't give much attention to the word "kei" but to it's significance and advantages. Yes, we should enjoy our ride as much as we can.

    *mikaztro,

Sorry for the oversight. Thanks for the clarification.

BTW, dprox, moderator of the design forum, is also an architect.

OT - Actually there are several architects in the design group, some of whom are not as active in posting. Most are from U.P., like dprox and me.

Then perhaps these fine gents and ladies of the architectural community can be encouraged to try their skills at designing a kei car or phuv. Dprox has a steady hand (see his Urduja concept).

    *SO,

Stop hanging around and do your bamboo thing. Please!

We need to have alternative materials for some of the parts.

    Hi foifoi05,

I seem to recall you being an architect as well. Is that right? If so, donbuggy - we got our star architect-automotive designer right here.

BTW, foifoi05, if you have the time, perhaps you would like to design your own version of the kei car? If so, I can ask ehnriko to pm/email you the details.

    Let me know.

    *jpdm,

That looks like it is made of balsa wood! And are those solar panels on the roof? Sabagay I can imagine these running around in your campus.

How about - OyIL is the star-IT automotive designer. You are the star-architect automotive designer. hehe

AFAIK the space frame ehnriko designed can accommodate curvy designs. Once he finalizes it, I will ask him to pm you, okay?

    BTW you got pm.

    Thanks. Regards.

I saw this picture of the Genius mUV made by Lagangan Automobile Designs. Looks like a good alternative as a personal car with rising fuel prices this days...
