MANILA, Philippines - After enjoying a lower terminal fee for almost a month, passengers will have to pay the higher terminal fee of P750 again soon.
According to the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), Manila International Airport Authority will reapply its application for imposing an additional P250 to the current P500 terminal fee.
Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas said the extra funds are needed for operations and maintenance of the airport terminals.
The terminal fee for international flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) went down from P750 to P550 effective February 1.
The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) also debunked the notion that the NAIA imposes a lot of fees, unlike other countries.
Roxas explained the terminal fees and travel taxes are incorporated in the airplane tickets purchased in other countries.
In the Philippines, airlines refuse to incorporate the said fees due to the many exemptions such as the OFW and senior citizen privileges, enjoyed by a number of passengers.
The DOTC, however, plans to fix this issue within the next 6 months, by implementing a system where all passengers are required to pay all fees upon purchase of a plane ticket. A refund receipt will be provided for passengers, who are exempted from payment.
The government is working to rehabilitate the 30-year-old NAIA Terminal 1, which has been named by a website as the world's worst airport.

Eh when the P750 was charged before, wala naman nang yari sa NAIA. You only got the world's worst airport for it. Sa bulsa lang pumunta. The P250 before was supposed to go to the security enhancements, not airport maintenance...
