hi tsikoteers, I would like to know your "habits": if nasa stop light kayo waiting for the green light, nasa D, N or P ang auto tranny nyo?

I will start. Pag matagal-tagal pa, naka N and foot break ako. Sometimes, naka D and stepping on the breaks. Never akong ng P

    TIA

mas ok yan... put your transmission in N is good plus hand brakes... no need to put it in P.. P stands for park.. so why place it at P in traffic?? it also lessens the work of your transmission engaging and disengaging in R

Depends. .. If I approach a stop light and I know malapit na sya mag Go, I leave it on D while pressing the brake. Kapag alam ko na matagal ang hintayan, I put in on N and press the foot brake. Rarely do I put it at P.

Same with the others. If I know it'll turn green within the next 20 seconds or so, I keep it at D. If it just turned red, I shift to N.

I put it on N, then apak sa foot brake.

Pero, kung mabigat sa paa,- like palusong or matagal, like kapapalit lang sa red, then lipat ako sa N at tapak sa preno... Kuwidaw lang sa pagbalik sa D,- may mga pagkakataon that you're not thinking straight at puwedeng mailagay sa R...

Kaya,- maganda ang gated automatic shifter,- it will take you an extra effort to wrongly place it to R (from N).....

Ang field master ba gated type?

Ganyan yun umatras saken before, sa stoplight kaka red lang i saw the field master infront of me nilagay sa "P".

Quite a number of drivers, particularly the ones who picked up bad driving habits from other drivers who didn't know any better, often practice improper driving by not shifting to neutral when the car is not moving. While I would like to tell you that there is a good reason (under normal circumstances) for keeping it in D and stepping on the brakes at a stop, I can't. It's mostly born out of laziness and improper training.

As you have correctly surmised, the engine does consume more fuel and you do wear down your brake-system components more when you leave your transmission in D or Drive while the traffic light is red or when you’re idling and waiting.

With automatic transmissions, the engine is energizing or driving the transmission to move in the direction of the gear you've selected--forward or reverse. When you keep it in gear, you are telling your vehicle to move; when you're on the brakes, you're preventing motion. You're unnecessarily and slowly raising your automatic transmission fluid, wearing out your transmission clutches, and consuming more fuel because you're on the brakes to keep the car from inching forward. You're also unnecessarily wearing down and heating up your brake pads. By simply shifting to N or neutral there would be no need to apply the brakes with the amount of force required to resist forward motion.

Should you really shift to neutral when stuck in traffic? - Motormouth Online | TopGear.com.ph

So, as much as possible, put to "N"!

Nope it is not gated. Mali kasi yung nag-P pa siya. Baguhan siguro kaya yung susunod kasi dun ay R. tapos N, D. Kinulang ng 2 pababa yung driver nun. Human error. May button kasi to shift from N,D to P or R. Pero N at D wala. ;)

Dapat kapag saglit lang eh D lang, kapag matagal, N tapos use parking brake dapat.

Never put your shifter to P unless you are parked.
