July 31st, 2014 10:25 AM #11I heard yesterday on the radio that the bridge itself is nearly 40 years old, hence the urgent need for retrofitting.
Kasali dapat sa repair cost ang pag-devise ng alternate routes dahil nga this is a major road, and is a daily bottleneck even without the road closure. As a follow-up to CVT's post above, if they have to construct a temporary off-ramp on Skyway northbound after Sucat (like the Bicutan temporary ramp years ago), by all means please do it. Para kasing they plan on pushing through with the repair without regard to the vehicles that will be displaced, bahala na yung traffic chaos na mangyayari basta eto kailangan nang i-repair.
I drive on SLEX from C5 to Alabang and back daily, this will surely make the long queue on Sucat NB exit even longer. Yung e-pass lane sa Sucat NB exit, kung closed yung half ng sucat interchange bridge, magtatrapik din yung epass lane and traffic will back up to the middle lane of SLEX, leaving only the innermost lane open to the rest of northbound motorists.

Since you are a regular in the area,- they actually did some retrofitting earlier,- reason why the 3-lane road of SLEX southbound, after the Sucat Exit,- was merged to 2 lanes under the bridge...
I don't have the inside information, but apparently, and this is my wild guess,- it was not enough, and so this repair schedule necessitating the closure of Sucat eastbound lane....

So nagtaka ako dahil narestore na to 3 lanes yung SLEX SB, pero di pa inaalis yung repair warning signages before Sucat (nb/sb). Hmmm, yung Ortigas flyover din ni-retrofit dati pero pillars lang yung ginawa, di naman pinalitan yung beams on the structure itself.
Anyway, if they do push through with the repair, I hope something is done to improve safety. A colleague of mine was hit by a marble-sized stone on the windshield - nagcrack windshield nya - during the Sucat retrofitting works. Lalo na ngayon that the bridge itself will be repaired, delikado if something falls on your car and you're running at 60kph in the construction zone.
