In the June 2009 issued of Top Gear Phil., there's an article by Robby Consunji about the LTO granting amnesty for driver's licenses with "faked" birthdays. According to him, this amnesty covers all licenses regardless of year of application and/or falsification. There will be no suspension of the license, just payment of a 5k fine on top of the usual license renewal fees. I looked at the LTO website to confirm but there does not appear to be any rule or order covering this. Has anyone actually done this or confirmed from LTO?

for those doctored their age to get a drivers license, just a curious question. would you allow your underaged children or relatives to do the same?

I have a relative who faked his age just to get a license, that time there was no one in their household to carry out the driving responsibilities, he was young at 15, but he knows what to do and not to do when driving, turned out he was responsible, no accidents and apprehensions and does not drive like an arrogant brat ( I was able to ride with him).

As to answer your question, I would suggest to really wait for the proper age to apply for a license. If there was a case like what I presented above then apply with a fake birth date, but be ready for the consequences later when you want to correct this.

    Hello Everyone,

Its almost been two years since this thread was started and up to now, there is no one yet who has corrected their license. I will research on the top gear issue and hope this can resolve our problems.

As for the LTO website (http://www.lto.gov.ph/dlreq.html#dls7), there is nothing here about the fine or suspension but I did renew my license two weeks ago and they told me to just use my old license nalang daw if I still have other valid IDs.

I hope there is someone out there reading this willing to share his/her experience

I had someone ask around the LTO if the amnesty mentioned in Top Gear is true. It's not. One year suspension is still in effect, unless you can talk to someone...

My friend whom I earlier posted when asked to choose if he was willing to surrender his license for suspension was able to ask around he did mentioned a hefty 5,000 php fine without suspension but they don't allow amnesty talaga for those who fixed their date of birth to get a license. It would go something like adjustment of the year when you applied example: N01-85-xxxxxx, he was 16 when he availed his license, so it would be like this after it was fixed N01-87-xxxxxx with the correct date of birth now affixed.

He was not able to do it because the Lto personnel kept insisting there is no such order from the agency, it's a matter of finding a connection inside, I think the Lto does not want to make this move yet.

I've been trying to have my date of birth corrected din dati pa, and I was told to just bring a birth certificate.

Ang nangyari naman sa kin, pinabata ako.

Wala akong kamalay-malay nung sinamahan akong mag-apply ng tita ko. Sya ang kumausap sa kaibigan nya from LTO. She wrote my date of birth as 1974 eh 1973 naman ako.

Pag pinilit kong palitan ang birthdate, may suspension din ba ako, considering bumata pa nga ako at halatang typo lang talaga?

You should have corrected the date when you first noticed it was misprinted. Now that the system is computerized it will be hard for you to correct this. Your best hope is to have an affidavit of discrepancy ready, and go to the LTO office and explain to them that you are not under age then when you applied for your license. Good luck.

Huwag mo na baguhin yung age mo sa license, hassle lang yan. Yung akin naman 1973 ang year of birth ko sa license when in fact 1976 ako pinanganak. I guess I just have to live with it since I can't afford to have my license suspended.

Right, but only until you need to have consistent documents like when you're applying for a passport.

I just came back from the LTO, East Ave. I was able to have the birthdate in my license corrected from 1971 to 1973. No fines, no suspension.

I called LTO about 3 months ago to confirm if the one year suspension for those with wrong birthdates is still in effect. The LTO said there was no more suspension, only a fine of Php5k. I was ready to pay the fine just so I wouldn't have to falsify a public document (again). But lo and behold, when it was my turn to pay the cashier (window 6) she only asked me to pay Php592.63. Here's a breakdown of payment:

    License Fee - 350
    Penalty Late Ren - 75
    Revision of Records - 100
    Comp Fee - 67.63

The penalty there is for late renewal, not the fine I was expecting. And allow me to stress - I didn't hire any fixer or bribe anyone or even talk to anyone just to get them to change my birthdate.

To cap it all, it only took me 2 hours total (with medical and drug test) to complete everything.

These are the docs I presented:

NSO copy and xerox of birth certificate (they took only the xerox, but I think it's safer to have the NSO copy on hand so they can compare the xerox to it)
    Affidavit of discrepancy

Of course, you need to fill out their application form and have the medical and drug test results.

Finally, I can breath a sigh of relief after 19 years of having to falsify my license. I hope you guys are able to change your records too! Good luck!
