We have a 2nd gen Vios 1.3 m/t in the province and i can say its not blessed enough to reach 100kph at less than 10 sec.
More importantly, what is the issue if a Vios can do 100kph in less than 10sec or hit 200kph (as in the other thread)? Its a good, affordable, efficient daily driver and not a pocket-racer vehicle.
It's just that some people wish it had more of a shot of adrenaline.
What really throws people off is Toyota's engine mapping. Because Toyota has an engine map that opens the throttle wide even when you're only pressing on the gas pedal lightly, it feels really fast... but when you get to the stopwatch, it isn't so.
Still... there is hope. The Vios TRD suspension is a lovely upgrade for the Vios... a Vios 1.5G MT with the TRD Suspension upgrade (the only part of the TRD package worth buying, IMHO) is a right gas to drive and is amazingly capable... though it's not as light and feathery feeling as the Mazda2.

Err... Nitrometh? Hehehe....
If i had a Vios as a daily driver and a weekend toy, i would also play more on the suspension just as well over the engine (and fix the lousy seating position). I won't bother much with straight line performance; there will always be bigger fish in the sea (i.e. LPG powered Lynx RS). :D
Hehe... reminds me of when we borrowed the Vios TRD.
It had a full bodykit, TRD mags and a wing. I actually liked the wing and sideskirts... the front lip, not so much...
I was on the highway, just cruising, when I passed another Vios. All of a sudden, he's up on my tail, weaving left, right, and on the shoulder. He's got a bodykit, a hood scoop, and LED lighting plastered all over the car like it's a Christmas tree.
He zooms past me going over 140 km/h... then gets stuck behind a bus. I pass him. He zooms past me going even faster on the other side, then gets stuck behind a truck. I pass him. This goes on for a while, then he gets stuck somewhere and I don't see him again for several minutes. Finally, there's a flash of silver in my mirrors, coming up at high speed.
I signal and pull out to pass the truck in front of me. He latches onto my tail just to make sure I can't lose him... I maintain my... *yawn* 100 km/h pace and pay no attention. He pulls out all the way to the right shoulder (when I've left the two lanes on the left side free) and downshifts and revs his nuts off and slowly pulls away. Me? Still doing 100 km/h. And that's my exit coming up. :hysterical:
Dumbass. That was the most boring "kill" of my life. Winning against another driver on "cruise mode", switching merely between the middle two lanes of the highway.![]()

Niky's story reminds me of two rabid hamsters racing. LOL!
Or years ago at White Plains with people drag racing Kia Prides vs Daihatsu Charades.

Rabid Hamster Racing... hmmm... good name for a team.
What are we fielding for the PTCC... Chery QQs?![]()

The 0-100 kph 8 sec time is achievable but you have to prep the car. The easiest is to reduce the car's overall weight. Heck, I used to do this back when I was doing street drag races. What I did back then were the following: Unload all the stuff in the trunk (spare tire, tools, jack, dead bodies, etc), remove the rear & front passenger seats, over-inflate the rear tires by 5 to 10 PSI (to help reduce rolling resistance) and remove the air filter. It also helped if you have 1/4 or even less of fuel in the tank too (reduce weight as much as possible).
I was doing 0-100kph in 8 seconds in a 92 Nissan Sentra B13 1.6L with an internally stock GA16DE motor, mostly from lightening the car.

Based on experience, a 1.5G Vios (gen 1 and riced up, I suppose) can still keep up with stock D15B Honda EG sedans as long as it's Edsa and driving (or "street racing") anywhere higher than 5000 rpm is almost not possible.
But anywhere on Slex, expect the T to see the H tailight driving away and out of sight.
It was just an instance so I don't intend to speak in general about the Vios acceleration.
Heck I can't even drive (for obvious reasons) anywhere past 3000 rpm on my ex-gf's 1.3E or am I lazy enough to look at the center-mounted tachometer?
For one, that's probably a 1.5. For another, it's shot at an angle, so the timer ends at the wrong time. And lastly, stock speedometer, so likely very inaccurate... because there's no way a stock 2010 1.5, with that weight, could hit nearly 8 seconds flat. And from the video, it hits 60 km/h in 3.5 seconds... which is about as quick as a 300 hp STi or a 200+ hp diesel car...
Speedo video ain't proof. Video of V-Box testing is proof. That's all. But if you read the speedo properly (remember, camera at an angle... it seems like 9+ seconds is more likely. (That's the time when the angle of the needle matches the angle of the 100 km/h hash mark)... which, given a standard speedo error of 5-10 km/h... gives you a sub-10 second time... possible on a Vios 1.5 MT.
I've V-Boxed a stock 1.5 Vios (2009). 10+ seconds with a full tank and 17" wheels. I'd wager with stock 15s and a quarter tank, close to 9 and a half.
