    Innova '07, Gas.

Butas na. nung isang araw, gas was dripping.

Twice a week lang kung magamit ang innova kaya umabot ng 63k bago lumabas ito.
Symptoms, so a few months ago, everytime I start driving, after around 5 minutes, you would hear a faint 'lagutok' sound. I thought there was something loose, pero laging once lang, at kung first 5 minutes. So now, that explains the sound, the negative pressure warps the whole tank and the 'lagutok' is the tank warping.

So I had this problem around friday kasi amoy gas daw sa paligid, when I looked below, I saw signes na parang may dried salts trail. So ok, i thought pinhole leak. But Friday, I had to fetch someone from the airport. Passed by Rapide, pasara na sila. so no use. That was really stressful since gas was draining fast, and Fort to Airport traffic is... ^&%$##$^&*.

Saturday, no leak. used it manila to cubao and back.
Sunday, no leak, pero parang biglang nabawasan gas.

So Monday, I was planning to go to servitek before noon, my brother gave me a call that the leak was really strong. So i opened the cap, then walked to ACE hardware to get epoxy putty (buti malapit SM)
    1. for water, can be stuck to anything even when whet
    2. epoxy putty steel filled

then went to the nearest servitek. I had it lifted, and ayun nga, it is leaking just beside the metal strap. exactly as in the picture shown in an earlier post. so we tried to put the 'water' putty, made it stick. then after, i put the steel filled putty over it. so sabi ko temporary lang ito until I can get a new tank.
Monday whole day, it seemed to work kasi walang leak.
Then Tuesday, leaked again while parked. So I opened the cap, kasi I thought it was the expanding gases inside the tank that pushes the gasoline out of any pinholes. Also, finally decided to get a new tank, Called Aerodynamic, 2 months pa raw ang tank. out of stock sa planta. So next option is 'surplusan' as bulacan.

Wednesday, lo and behold, I saw this thread because of 'is it ok to keep gasoline tank uncapped'. So tank is still not tightly capped until now.
Am on page 30 already of the thread. just compiled all I read.

Pag nasa US siguro tayo, bilis makahanap ng lawyer na magrerepresent sa atin to file a lawsuit.

Kung insured pa sasakyan mo, you can claim that sa insurance.

just cleaned the tank cap now.
analyzing the cap function, mabilis lang makakapasok ang hangin to relieve the negative pressure kung di barado ang cap. and yes, the filter of my cap is full of soot.
upon testing, it needs more pressure to move the valve on the cap when letting expanding gases out than when letting air in.
maganda siguro matest mo shibby if you still get that swoosh after you clean the filter on the cap. medyo mahirap alisin yung white plastic from the black housing, you have to align the notches. pag naihiwalay mo na sila, that's when you find the filter.

Hi guys! Just new here and I must admit, I learned a lot from this forum. This is my story...

Mine is 2006 J m/t gas, and at 62K mileage. My innova runs perfectly up until last June 25. While driving at north expressway, I heard something underneath. It was like a stone hit certain metal part. I did not bother to check, stupid me . The following day, before leaving home, I smelled gas and i saw my gas leaking. I immediately concluded, that was the damage done by that stone, or whatever it was.

I called Toyota and believe me, it was a rough argument. I contested that due to the high cost of gas tank (18K, excluding labor), how come it was easily damaged. According to them, it can not be repaired and the only solution was to replace it with a new one. What else can I do? Nganga!!! Hehehe

After a week, when the gas was no longer leaking, I had a mechanic fixed it by putting steel epoxy on that very small crack just beside the strap. I was surprised when I saw the picture posted by nicnoc, that was the same spot where my gas leaks. Wonder how come? In this forum, my case is different since my gas tank was hit. I am now confused and I hope you guys can help me.... Thanks a lot

    *jeachaelle,

If it was the same exact position, this is the warping tank syndrome and it was not exactly hit by stone. My first gas tank leak, and my first notion was - it was hit by hard object so I had it replaced using insurance claim, but it happened again after 6 months then I know it was not hit by hard object but a defect in design, because after the first incident and after the first tank replacement, I had a gas tank skid plate protector built by my welder friend to protect the tank from getting hit by hard object, but then still after 6months it happened again. I had my case presented to my dealer, they lifted the car and they saw the skid plate tank cover intact and with the tank warped like it was hit by hard object, this time the dealer replaced my tank, charcoal canister, and filler cap all free of charge.

Steel epoxy would not last long in a week time it would leak again, done that for 3 consecutive weeks heheeh Best solution was to have it pulled down by your mechanic and bring it to your suking radiator repair man and have it patched using suplete (torch and lead) and thin sheet of metal to brace the cracked portion. You would not even spend a thousand peso for this including your mechanic labor cost.

Replace also, the charcoal canister and filler cap and these are costly

Only the filler cap is defective, not the charcoal canister.

Thank you, Mile2 for that quick reply. You have been so helpful, as always

So my case is the same as yours? I want to believe that at first. But dear, I really heard that hit for it was quite loud. If you say that it was not caused by the stone, what has triggered that sound? My presumption, if I may say, and correct me if I am wrong, is that, the pressure of the hit made a crack in that most vulnerable portion of the gas tank (my speed was 100kph that time). And there was no warped part anywhere, just a crack about 2 inches.

Of course not, Mile2! I only have it done once. And yes, after 5 days, the leak was back. At least, I made you smile I have not driven my innova for two weeks already. I would love to follow your advise as soon as the leak is gone. Would you believe, if the weather is cold, there is no leak. And each time the sun shines, the leak is back. Grrrrhh!

About the charcoal and filler cap, do I really have to replaced them agad-agad? hehhehe

Even with the dirty mesh bro, I wouldn't think it can hold or push that pressure.....

I tried sucking on the old cap without the filter mesh. mabilis makasipsip ng hangin. I noticed the same feel when sucking on the new cap.
