I beg to disagree. Avanza in KL are manufactured 2004 pa. If you read the thread they are posting in Malaysia, they will tell you that the whole front and rear suspension are modified for the 2006 Avanza released in the philippines. Try riding Avanza here in Manila with our bad roads and you will see the difference. Of course, you can't compare it with a Camry 2005 which I have but I would say its more or less the same with the ride of an ALtis and the new Civic which both I have also. Well compared to Fortuner, its too bumpy. I feel like a popcorn inside which was the main reason why I didn't got one in exchange for Avanza.

thanks for the clarifications gensi, i was concerned when i read from other posts that the ride is bumpy. i almost cancelled my reservations when i read those bad rides opinions. so, now its clear that the newly released avanza is the modified/refined version of of 2004 Avanza Malaysia.

That's why you should never buy a vehicle you have never test driven and if the dealer won't allow you, bring your money elsewhere. Sa Pilipinas lang ata uso ang bumibili ng sasakyan without having done a full road test. I dunno why. Ganun ba kaganda mga brochure natin? Hindi na kailangan ng test drive? :lol:

Oo nga ano, kaya siguro madaming nagpareserve maganda yung brochure at magaling magsales talk yun SA.
Subjective nga talaga yung ride ng avanza. Anyway, baka acceptable na rin yung ride for me kasi sanay naman ako sa jeep, bisekleta, taxi, fx at crosswind(eto yung kaisa-isang AUV sa bahay)hehehe. Pero try ko pa rin i-test drive yung unit bago ko bayaran.

The bumpy ride was one of the major complaints about the 2004 avanza and there is long thread there about suspension mods. But according to forums in Malaysia, the new avanza improved significantly such that many of the forum guys are now looking to swap their spring/shocks with what's used in the new one. What they know is that the new avanza uses different rear shocks, springs and a modified control arm.

Seems like you left out a vital information from the Avanza Malaysia forums...

From their forums, only the Avanza 1.5L variant got the upgraded suspension bits... the 1.3L variant is still using the old suspension setup.

So it seems that I am right on the spot regarding the choppy ride of the Avanza that I rode there in Malaysia (brand new, 1.3L).

And oh... they already have a complaint there:

To all the Avanza members. Please start to file in a official complain about the Defect :
1. MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) fails to lid when O2 sensor disconnected
2. Engine fluctuates when using test procedure from the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) manual to ensure the O2 sensor is working with (3000 rpm for 4 minutes). This failure is causes by the ECM failing to sense the signal from the O2 sensor disconnection. Is important that you file in the official complaints when you send the car to service center.

i'll check ha pero its 2 Din. maganda na yung stereo. happy na ako. tapus pag nagpatugutg ka sa sobrang lakas ng sound sa luob rinig sa labas. minimal lang kasi sound proofing ng avanza. hehehe. Champagne ang mahirap kunin. I have friends who settled for silver kasi sabi nga more than 2 weeks pa raw. Wala nga raw ma release na white avanza for taxi. MGE and R & E needs 80 units each. dun sila nag order sa toyota dagupan. btw hingi ka discount sa dealer mu. Binigyan kasi ako P5t and free front and rear sensor.

Thanks bro, pwede pala makahingi ng discount at freebies. I'll inform my wife on this. Yun nga raw ang sabi ng SA na merong silver na available agad. kaya lang champange talaga ang kursunada eh. Baka meron na yun bago mag-pasko.

Sa brochure and looks nga lang ako nag-rely in deciding to buy the avanza. I also read forums related to the vehicle. My wife saw it and she likes it. And I trust her taste naman . Wala pa naman akong nakitang matindi ang reklamo on the bumpy rides of the philippine avanza dahil siguro wala pa gaano gumagamit.

I can't argue with you if you find the ride choppy. Maybe I have a higher threshold for choppiness. I'm fine with the ride so far but others might not be so forgiving.

That 02 sensor is a major and old complaint with the old avanza. But this forum post says this problem has been addressed in the newer avanza by using 4 leads in the o2 sensor instead of 2 leads in the old:

Ei guys! I finally drove home my new Scarlet Fury Avanza 1.3!!! (thats the official name of the Red color as stated by the SA ).
This morning, the wife and I were prepared for a long drawn out day at the Toyota dealership while picking-up our new baby ride... To our delight it took us 30 mins only to sign the necessary documents and then to be handed over the keys!! Wheeee! We actually stayed at the dealership for about an hour and 15 mins since the Sales Agent whom we had done the deal with over the phone was entertaining no less than the Vice Mayor of ____ so we had to wait. (well nauna naman siya dumating dun kaya ok lang...hehe).
So, for my humble assessment of our new addition to the family :

the Good :1) we were handed two sets of remote for the locks! this was probably because we had requested them to install central locks to the tune of additional 4k bucks..
2) the aircon was indeed cold. thanks to gensi's advice on turning the blower at back on..
3) road visibility is better compared to my old sedan since the ride is much higher
4) the CD player did not have qualms in playing CDs that our sedan's player had difficulty in playing. sound quality is passable (will upgrade once warranty of existing audio set is expired)
5) the accelerator and brakes were veeeery responsive! hit top speed at 145km/hr. baka mas mataas pa sana kaso naubusan ng diretsong kalsada! hehe
6) the ride was not at all that bouncy as previously stated by others, but compared to a sedan you WILL notice that you are now riding a vehicle with higher center of balance, thus the bounciness. Though I admit you can feel the difference, I can definitely live with it...
7) it rained during our trip and I really appreciated the rear window wiper. kala namin wala e...
8) I'm 5'4" and I fit reeeal well at the third row seat. Plenty of room to spare! IMO kahit utol ko na 5'10" kakasya duon. masikip pa pala yung Innova na natry ko dati...
9) at 1.3L like our old sedan, our new Avanza ha a bigger gas tank at 45L! the old sedan only has 30. We can go to Iloilo and back home on a full tank! wala nang gas stop. hehe.
10) getting in and out is much ergonomic compared to the low sedan (plop down style ka pag pasok) or the higher Isuzu APV, Fortuner, Innova, Revo etc (tiid style o kaya hop up to board style o kaya kapit then pull up style! hehe)
11) the doors open at a much wider gap than the sedan. yan! madaling makakapasok mga uugod na kamag-anak na matataba! hehe
12) the bare metal door trims is not that bad as expected...well parang time warp lang talaga siya. 80s here we are! hehe. Will definitely have proper door trims/panelings attached once available...
13) tint is done nicely. no bubbles noted. sa crew yata yan dependent so kudos sa dealership service crew for this. (will probably upgrade to a darker 3M tint pag warranty expire na)

the BAD :1) no mud guards! ang dumi tuloy ng body dahil sa ulan! The SA said as of yet, there are NO hop up parts available for the Avanza! for sure we're the first to buy!!!
2) no door visors, again the same gripe as above. darn! kelan kaya magkakaroon?!
3) the third row seat did not lock into place! we failed to check this as the seat was folded when we drove it out. mental note to have it fixed here at the small local dealership... to would-be buyers, MAKE SURE you check this!
4) no storage nook by the hand brake! bat wala?!
5) tools located under driver's seat fixed in place with the floor carpet only by piece of mat with velcro! no recessed area what so ever!
6) glove compartment seems too narrow to place anything thick or wieldly... no wine bottle will defnitely fit in there this time...
7) the door panels at the 2nd doors are indeed a bit warped! but swerte not as bad tulad ng dun sa dating post dito... whew!
8) carpet can be improved a bit. ang nipis yata kasi
9) parang yung first gear useless...konting gas lang nasa 4k na rpm kaagad, shift ako kaagad sa 2nd wala pa halos 2 secs... puro 2nd gear na lang tuloy ako kahit crawling kami. Ganito ba talaga pag Toyota??

So far have covered 178kms. gas used 1/4 sa needle gauge. will compute FC pag next tank up ko. Since followed "hard break in", plan to change oil tomorrow... Sa Toyota dealer papagawa to kasi baka ma void warranty ko.

Will keep you posted on my experiences with our latest ride... So far we're all loving it. Except our panganay... Me senti pa kasi siya sa dating sedan namin. hehe

late yesterday evening (friday), I was following a bnew no-plate maroon avanza 1.3 on the foot of santolan bridge northbound before cubao. medyo aninag ko happy faces ng family sa loob, kayo ba yun hehehe. anyway, I followed the avanza hanggang p. tuazon.

the red avanza 1.3 looks very respectable. nakatabi pa nga nya yun old isuzu highlander na two-tone. halos magsing-laki except for the tires.

I logged in in avanza malaysia. the malfunctions you mentioned have been corrected with both the new 1.3 and 1.5 Avanza in the phils. In Malaysia they have I think the 2 O2 sensor. If you check the new Avanza its a 4 O2 sensor already.

ok na yung HU na yan, i guess sa speakers tinipid. ma void ba ang warranty kung palitan yung mga speakers and mag install ng ampli?

also for the 1.3 J unit, ma void din ba ang warranty if you have it installed with aftermarket alarm and central locking system?

yes, just ask toyota yesterday about it. anything you touch voids the warranty. its directly from toyota dagupans' owner whom i had conversed with yesterday. if you change the tires and mags voids warranty for the suspension and underchassis. if you touch the electricals voids the warranty too. unless they are the ones who installed it eh hindi raw ma void. but of course price is much higher in casa.

If you change the speakers, they won't even know. And you can just put the OEM's back on in case they want to investigate.

They won't be taking the doors apart for every warranty claim you make.

Just like to ask Avanza owners if they noticed that the 2 rear doors don't have censors. I just found out that these are lacking in my 1.3J unit making the alarm useless if thief enters the rear doors. Is this a part of cost cutting for the 1.3J version? Thanks!

Ganyan din po sa basic models ng Innova [kahit ata dashboard warning lamp wala ito]. Don't know about the basic Hilux.

Akala ko nga L300FB na lang ang kulang sa door sensors in this modern age. Hehehe.

Does the interior lamp still have a 'door' function?

Nalalagyan naman po ng sensor iyan. May mga vintage cars din po kasi na walang sensors (kahit sa front doors) kaya nilalagyan na lang. Kaya lang bago pa ang Avanza. Baka nakakahinayang ipabutas.

for the 1.5G merun lahat door sensors. I think thats part of their cost cutting ideas. pero parang hindi tama na walang door sensors sa rear which is more important rather than the front.

Rustproofing for CBU Avanza is not needed. the manual and toyota dagupan tells us that it has a rustproofing however its more of a colorless type. old style na kasi yung black na rustproofing. so no need for it unless you live near saltwater areas then additional rustproofing is ok.
3m tint, matting and seat cover free lahat. btw, their one of the best pag nag kabit ng tint. dami na ako vehicle pero pag may bago ako dun ko dinadala. magaling yung tao nya. kaya e full ang front na walang putol. ang rear may putol pero hindi halata.
