i frequently visit a malaysian avanza forum and genting highlands is always mentioned as a reference for avanza's power (or lack of). owners swear that they had no problem even if fully loaded. i just don't know if genting highlands is equivalent to baguio.

but one thing is sure, don't expect the avanza to be a rocket.

to this day di ko maintindihan why toyota(and while we're on the subject, suzuki) didn't fit a diesel engine on the avanze/apv. kahit 1.3/1.6L lang, imho it's still a better choice for people carriers, di ba? baka masyadong mahal na pag diesel engine

Not really. The big premium on diesel cars nowadays versus their gasoline counterparts is for the turbo systems and the ultra-high pressure injectors. (That is, for cars that have both variants)

If you have a non-turbo CRDi Avanza, it wouldn't cost that much more (maybe 10-20k only) than the gasoline Avanza... but it'd be pitifully slow. Expect a non-turbo CRDi 1.3 to have about 60hp or so.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

hmmm...wala na bang ibang components na kelangan palitan, since diesels might produce more vibration?

hmmm...thinking ko lang kasi is that they're marketing it as a people mover anyways...in which case, torque would be more important di ba?

Not really, because diesel vibration from CRDis are less, and the adaptation, I think, is in the engine mounts themselves, already.

That much is true. But it's up to the consumers. The reason CRDis are getting so expensive is the push to make them as flexible and driver-friendly as gasoline engines, thus, high states of tune (for diesels) and high prices.

If the automakers were to seriously consider their target markets, they'd make clean running cheap diesels with relatively lower performance, but great economy. As it is, modern CRDis command such a price premium that you don't see a return on investment for quite a while...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

if you look at the price differential of the Getz 1.4L and the 1.5L turbodiesel, it's quite a lot, 80k-ish or about 15% of the price of the vehicle.

if you compare the Innova J gas and J diesel, which uses a decidedly lower-tech diesel but still a turbodiesel, the difference is less.

i would suspect that the Avanza has a high-revving engine (it is a VVT-i after all) and short gears, so it can handle Genting Highlands. it would not get great fuel economy though, probably 4-5km/L. which is the same economy that FX's get when filled to the brim.

Toyota Avanza is one of the most sellable vehicle in Indonesia. Hope toyota can also give way to Toyota Xaris so it can compete with Honda Jazz.

based from the malaysian forum about avanza fuel ave consumption... city driving=11-12km/li & highway 14-15km/li... hmmm pwede na.
