anyone knows when this will be available locally? i was seriously considering the new santa fe but was put off by the price 1.795m and was no real 7seater. And then i've read that the new subaru forester will be coming out, so i was also seriously considering the turbo model. For the same price of almost 1.795m, i'll be getting 275hp vs 200hp (275hp since ours will be probably sourced from japan), a direct injected gas engine, and a CVT

shucks! 1.995m for the turbo?? too damn expensive!!! hahaha! it better have eyesight and everything else they can think of for that price!! sana naman hindi ganun kamahal!! I used to think that subies were priced 'just right' especially the outgoing forester xt for 1.795m (there were discounts going around for as much as 150k!!). i hope motor image don't go the HARI way where they price their cars more expensive a LOT more than the previous model. Sigh, considering that our economy is doing good too. Now the new Rav4 4x2 full option seems a good alternative....

    - And while not really related to FC but being able to use regular unleaded instead of premium gas helps with the fuel costs by about 5-8%

And the best thing is it has about 45 more HP and 4 more (virtual) gears than the outgoing model. Paddle shifters too! Insanity!!!!!

On the highway at 80-100 kph over a very long drive, probably. Else, daydreaming. I don't think anyone buys a turbocharged CUV and expects frugality anyway...

i have a 2006 2.0 civic, going 7 years now and im doing 6-7km/L city and 10-11km/L hiway. i think its possible to get the same FC for the new forester as long as you dont always floor it and its a CVT!!!

yes those who buy these cars (turbo model) are likely enthusiast and they know what they are getting into, hence they could have bought the non-turbo model if they are really concerned about the FC. BUT, the engine being a little bit frugal and a lot of horsepower to boot when needed won't hurt!!!

But your civic isnt turbo hehe. It's a 2 liter NA.

It can be frugal if you dont let the turbo kick in always BUT who would do an eco run if you have a freaking forester?? That thing just begs you to floor the pedal everytime and feel its insane power

You have a point sir, BUT with our day to day traffic in the city and the speed limit being imposed at SLEX and skyway (i was caught once, and costed me 2k to get my friggin' license back), i don't think you can tap the turbo so often even if you want to It's just good to know that even when you're stuck in traffic, your car sips fuel like a normal 2.0 engine and your rpm need not climb much when crawling in traffic for the tranny is a CVT! . and when the road opens up, your 2.0 engine gives you the power of a V6 with 275HP!! to hell with fuel economy by then!!

You need a radar detector and for SLEX a laser jammer.

Based on these 2 US sites, the low end FC readings are at par, but the 2014 model appears to have the edge:

The 2012-13 XS uses the same FB20 engine as the 2014. The 2014 supposedly benefits from the CVT trans as well as other generational refinements.

And BTW, Motor Image Manila has received its initial shipment of the 2014 Forester in XS and XT trims

Time to ask the hard questions - did I pull the trigger a few months too early getting my FXT? Is the new FXT worth the 300 grand price diff? Hope the new one isn't that much faster and that much more fuel efficient or I'll be feeling .

Same FB20 engine and CVT as the XV.

Forester is based on the Impreza platform which the XV is also based.

I see. Parang mas fuel efficient pala lalabas ang xv dahil sa weight.

I'm not an expert, but I think in terms of speed, your FXT should be faster as it's got a 2.5 engine. The new turbo models are only 2.0 if I'm not mistaken.

It will be probably be more fuel efficient though, with the smaller engine, CVT, and 8 speed transmission (?) instead of the current 4-speed.

Sir desmo, you got the XT discounted at 1.5m, right? Won't the new one be coming out at 2m?

The link posted above says that the new XT's faster. Also curious how effective the new turbos will be running along the CVT trans, given also the additional dimensions. Anyway, a YT vid comment mentioned that the old model had better handling. Hope they're wrong.
