Camsur rowing team is being sponsored by Gov LRAY Villafuerte and they have so much exposure here in the phils.
Nun napanuod mo last regatta 2007, the Nationals fielded only their applicants and not the ones you are watching now at Tampa Bay Florida.
PDBF are not the strongest rowers? wow!.....they have the best and world record sa World Dragon Boat Championship and even other countries nodded that they are the team to beat.
If you are a rower you would immediately know this facts that i am saying.

Dragon Warriors to get PSC bonus?
Langya....tinatanong pa ba iyan? These warriors deserve every incentive that they would get, considering the honor and glory they have given our country.
Dragon Warriors to get PSC bonus?
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Sports Commission is looking into the possibility of granting cash incentives to members of the Cobra Philippine Dragon Boat team that made giant waves in Tampa, Florida.
The Pinoy paddlers, who competed in the International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships despite zero funding from the government, won five gold and two silver medals in the biennial event. They found a way to get to Tampa through the sponsorship of Philippine Airlines and Cobra Energy Drink, both owned by business tycoon Lucio Tan.
The Filipinos made a lot of heads turn in Tampa, despite the absence of any support from the PSC, the government’s funding arm insports, and the Philippine Olympic Committee.
But PSC chairman Richie Garcia yesterday said that the team, which falls under the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation, might get something as reward for their triumphant effort.
“We are checking if they are covered by 9064,” said Garcia, referring to Republic Act 9064, signed by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2001. It is also known as the “Sports Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001.”
Under RA 9064, Filipino athletes and coaches who bring honors to the country are entitled cash incentives for every gold, silver or bronze medal won in the Olympics, Asian Games, SEA Games or any quadrennial World Championship.
Each gold is worth P5 million (Olympics), P2.5 million (World Championships), P1 million (Asian Games) and P100,000 (SEA Games). Each silver and bronze medal has a corresponding value.
The athletes must also fall under an NSA (national sport association) recognized by the POC. In this case, members of the Cobra Philippine team are not eligible, considering the other fact that the IDBF World Championships is held every two years.
“Most likely none for they are not recognized by the POC. But we are still checking,” said the PSC chief of the team, which also won gold medals in record fashion in the 2007 and 2009 stagings of the World Championships.
The IDBF is not yet a member of the International Olympic Committee, and because of this, the PDBF cannot be recognized by the POC, and cannot enjoy the financial support from the PSC.
Agreed. A win is a win. PSC, POC or whatever sports office should get politics out of the way and do the right thing. What they may think is legal (as in their rules and regulations) is not necessarily moral - especially for a team that competed based on sheer will, determination and love for country. On 2nd thought, maybe being free from the influence of such politicking bodies makes the team stronger.
I saw a feature on some team members in the news last night. Nakakaawa.
Special thanks should go to Cobra and PAL for sponsoring the Dragon Warriors.

Politics and paddles: No SEA Games action for Dragon Warriors
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) team will not be representing the country in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in November nor in the Asian Games in 2014.
This is because the PDBF is not a recognized national sports association (NSA) by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
The dragon boat team, dubbed the "Dragon Warriors," won 5 gold medals and 2 silvers in the recently concluded International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships in Tampa Bay, Florida.
PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia said the Dragon Warrios must first be endorsed by their sports association and the POC before they will be allowed to represent the Philippines in the SEA Games.
"Right now, they are not under any NSA. They are an independent group and they cannot join any event in the SEA Games or the Asian Games or the Olympics," Garcia said in an interview with DZMM’s Tambalang Failon at Webb.
Measly allowance
Garcia said an International Olympic Committee (IOC) memo states that the dragon boat event is under the discipline event of Canoe-Kayak.
The PDBF was asked to join the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation but due to political factions between both associations, they were unable to come up with a solution to unify the 2 NSAs.
The Canoe-Kayak Federation was eventually recognized by the POC as the legal NSA. The Canoe-Kayak Federation was also endorsed by the PSC.
The members of the dragon boat team tried for a month to join the Canoe-Kayak Federation but eventually left.
One reason was that their monthly allowance, which was supposed to be P20,000 for a world class athlete, was downgraded to only P8,000 a month.
According to Garcia, only the Philippines and Singapore have not complied with the IOC memorandum regarding dragon boat teams.
"Sa PSC, we have a policy na we recognize or endorse the association that is under the POC," he explained.
Possible accreditation
Garcia said there is still hope that the Dragon Warriors can compete in the SEA Games and Asian Games if they will consent to join the Canoe-Kayak Federation.
"Pagdating nila, I'll talk to the officers ng grupo. Nire-recognize naman namin na talagang magaling ang grupong ito, and they should really represent our country sa SEA Games. But they have to be under the Canoe-Kayak (Federation)," he said.
Garcia insisted that unless the dragon boat team joins the Canoe-Kayak Federation, they will not be allowed to participate in international competitions sanctioned by the IOC.
"Meron talagang regulasyon, and unless we follow the rules and regulations, kahit anong galing ka pa, hindi ka talaga papayagang sumali," he said.
Garcia said that he hopes to convince the dragon boat team to join the Canoe-Kayak Federation.
"Siguro naman kaunting pakiusap lang ito," he said.
Politics in sports
Politics, however, may stop the Dragon Warriors from joining the Canoe-Kayak Federation and representing the country in the SEA Games.
According to a source, the dragon boat team had participated in a time trial in the hopes of joining the 2010 Asian Games. The time trial was organized by the POC, the PSC and the Canoe-Kayak Federation.
The dragon boat team beat the time and passed with flying colors, but the POC and Canoe-Kayak Federation claimed that the team must be using performance enhancing drugs.
They were thus unable to compete in the Asian Games.
The source added that the Dragon Boat Federation is not on good terms with the POC, particularly with its chairman, Peping Cojuangco, uncle of President Benigno Aquino III.
Garcia also said the law is preventing them from giving the Dragon Warriors any incentive despite their medal haul.
"Sa Republic Act 9064, sinasabi dun na bago ka magbigay sa isang atleta o sa isang team ng incentive, you have to be recognized by the POC and the PSC, so even the law acknowledges the jurisdiction of the POC in recognizing the association," Garica said. -- With reports from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News and DZ
They didn't participate in the "standartd boat" category coz they've already made a world record last year or 2009 that's why their goal for this year is a world record in the "small boat" category which they actually accomplished.
![]()
Onli in the Philippines talaga..
The Irony of the PDBF...
