Greetings! Newbie land ako and I need help. I had just recently bought a 2nd hand japanese pajero from subic, and my diesel consumption is at 6.2 km/l. Majority of my driving is on highway. My friends are telling me that this is not normal and the consumption is rather high. Was just wondering if there is something wrong and needs checking. Also i have heard someone saying that by installing a catalyctic converter i could lower down consumption. By the way, my pajero has a 2.8l engine.

maybe your ride needs a calibration because it is a 2nd hand in the 1st place and you have no idea how it was driven before in japan

Agree with Johnart. Mine gets 7.2km/L city driving with Auto Tranny with 4WD sometimes engaged.

My theory is you may be a bit heavy with the right foot

does the fuel quality here in the philippines have an effect on the fuel consumption & performance of diesel engines in general?

i've read in autocar that for the euro market the they only have 3ppm (particles per million) for diesel engines. while in comparison, those sold in malaysia (and even here) have a ppm of 3000!

I did not get our actual consumption but when i drove to Baguio with a 2.8 4x2 two weeks back, we gassed up in Manila, drove to Baguio, around Baguio for one day and gassed up in La Union on our way home with 1/4 tank left (gassed around P1100.00 more or less).

doc diesel's shop always somes up kapag calibration na ang pinaguusapan... first diesel mo ba ito? do you keep your revs low (2000 -2500), diyan kasi yata ang max torque ng pajero... diyan sa range na optimal ang fuel consumption... pero I'll leave it to the pajero experts to say...

my gen 1 (4d56T) does about 7-7.5km/liter city and about 9-10km/liter on the highway. the gen 2.5 (4m40) halos ganon din. mas matipid lang ng konti.

gas consumption really depends on how our right foot behaves. hehe

I was doing 7-9 km/L on 31" A/T tires. Siguro a little bit less now that I'm on 33" muds.

I'm doing 7 km/l city driving. What is your tire pressure? Handbook indicates 28 psi. Pump it up to 32 psi will give you better mileage but a harder ride.

I usually run 28 to soften the ride up. The cranked t-bars stiffen up the ride quite a bit.

I'm averaging at 7.2 km/li, edsa and SLEX ang normal route ko, Filinvest QC to Alabang. I learned to discipline my accelerator feet. I'm running on 26psi (front) and 29psi (rear) N2 air. Don't ask me if there's a difference now i changed to N2, I still can't appreciate it, I'm just curious w/c why i tried.
DOC Otep, You mentioned about cranked T-bars w/c affects ride stiffines. How it is so? T-bars thightening makes my ride stiff and lossening makes it soft?

OT: Cranking the t-bar up will increase upward travel but will decrease downward travel causing it to hit on the bumpstops more during rebound.

And just like a spring, winding up a t-bar makes it more stiffer.

So the tendency is to wind it up as the shock is getting worn. To compensate for the loss shock performance. Thanks OTEP.
