Everyone else likes having the nose as high as possible.

Forget the stepped noses... though Force India's is the best non-McLaren so far... the most important part of the car is at the rear.

Force India has a clean undercut sidepod like McLaren, but their exhaust blows into an auxiliary winglet under the main wing. Ferrari are blowing the exhaust onto the brake ducts. It's likely that their brake ducts will either direct air towards the rear diffuser or act as an extension of the rear diffuser.
The most important part of the car is the car itself front till back not just the rear.

Almost all the teams will be using the stepped nose. McLaren won't be doing it because their car last year had a low nose, anyway.

The only point of interest on the nose cone itself, the bump, is probably going to be used as to "kick" air up away from e driver and into the air box. At least, this is the probable reason Ferrari have made the bump full width instead of smoothing it out like on the Caterham or Force India.

What's more interesting is under the nose, as teams explore how much air they can channel with e extended struts... whereas McLaren uses struts and a turning vane... To channel air to e floor under and around the side pods and ultimately to the rear diffuser.

Can't wait for the Red Bull challenger...mamayang gabi lalabas!

F1: 2012 Red Bull 'not as ugly as Ferrari' - Marko | News | Motorsport.com

Feb.5 (GMM) Dr Helmut Marko on Sunday gave the F1 world a sneak-preview of Red Bull's title-defending 2012 car.

A day before it debuts at Jerez, the Renault-powered RB8 will be revealed on Monday.

And the launch of Adrian Newey's next creation has become even more eagerly anticipated after rival top teams Ferrari and McLaren unveiled their 2012 machines.

Like the Caterham and Force India, Ferrari's car - the F2012 - has been derided for its 'ugly' nose.

The McLaren, however, has a sleek aerodynamic shape at the front.

Asked about the unattractive Ferrari solution, Red Bull's Marko insisted: "We have something that looks a lot better.

"Our car is not as ugly as the Ferrari, but it's also not like the McLaren, which doesn't have a kink in the nose at all.

"Ours is just a bit smaller and more elegant (than the Ferrari solution)," the Austrian added.

Also yet to be seen is the 2012 Mercedes, with the German marque's Norbert Haug promising: "The most beautiful car will be the one at the front."

Parang battle of the noses ah... :hysterical:

Parang sa aerodynamics na naman focus nila ngayon. Once the race start yung "pogi" talaga mananalo. hehe

    slight OT:

Just visited the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve this afternoon. It's too early though to see and walk on the track. puro snow pa. Sayang at hindi na namin aabutan ang sched dito.

Pero ang dami pa rin tao namamasyal.

Probably number two right now in the beauty race.

Very clean looking bodywork... but Renault has always had clean-looking cars, even when they weren't out in front.

Too bad the dark color and picture angles don't show us much of how the back of the car looks:

Williams has an interesting exhaust... It seems to sit very far forward on the side pod in order to hit the rear wing squarely. Wouldn't be surprised if McLaren's cobbled on exhaust outlet is a fake covering similarly forward positioned exhaust outlets.

Not much to read into that. Last year, Barrichelo was fastest, and look what happened to his season.

But from the absolute times, Kimi, at the very least, seems to be in a competitive car with good pace. Pretty sure Lotus will be at least in the upper-midfield this season.

    Jerez pre-season test - Day 2 reaction

Seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher and Mercedes topped the second day of testing in Jerez, somewhat pointlessly given that the car was a 2011-spec machine. After the day was done, everyone had a good old natter.

"We made some very good work with the new tyres...they are more consistent and a lot closer to what you would expect from a Formula One tyre," he was quoted as saying by Autosport.

"Understanding those tyres was our main focus and we had a programme we did pretty well with."

As for his 2012 hopes, however, he added: "I don't think we can realistically achieve a championship car immediately from where we started last year, we have to build our way there.

Definitely a pointless record. He's running the 2011 car, which has more downforce than this year's car.

What will be interesting to see is if any of this year's cars will actually match that time.

the car they used didn't have the exhaust blown diffuser. they covered the back end of the car immediately after stopping at the pits. that is definitely not a 2011 car.

Schumacher fastest on second day in Jerez - Yahoo! Eurosport

Schumacher, driving last year's Mercedes W02 in full trim so that the team could gain as much information about Pirelli's 2012 tyres from a stable platform
It's not a 2012 spec car. They were using an old car to test tires. Their full 2012 spec isn't out yet.. The car Webber was running was, so it's more of an indication.

Not that any of these laps matter, anyway... ...I wonder what the lap record at Jerez would be if they actually tried to set a lap record in one of the better cars from the last two years....

F1: Rosberg fastest on day 3 of Jerez pre-season testing

Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg took the fastest lap time in today’s FIA Formula One pre-season test in Jerez, Spain. The German team continues in their goal to find the needed information prior to finalizing their 2012 car by putting down laps utilizing their 2011 racing machine with a few minor changes on the new Pirelli tires before they show off their new challenger in Barcelona.

"I'm happy with the testing that we have achieved here in Jerez, and we learned a lot about the Pirelli tyres and a few other things for the new car," said Rosberg. "It seems that the tyres are closer performance-wise this year, with the rear tyres also looking a bit stronger. Pirelli have done a good job so far. You can't really compare the lap times with other teams, but it was interesting to learn a lot with our 2011 car. Now I'm really looking forward to the two Barcelona tests with our new Silver Arrow."

Either masikreto itong Mercedes GP o talagang pinaplantsa pa nila ang kanilang 2012 car....
