Chevron to increase oil prices by P1 per liter
    By Dennis Carcamo (philstar.com) Updated March 03, 2011 02:42 PM Comments (0)

MANILA, Philippines – Oil company Chevron announced that it would implement a P1 per liter increase in its petroleum products by midnight.

The price hike on gasoline, diesel and kerosene has been triggered by the continuous increase in the price of oil in the world market, reports said.

Other oil firms have yet to announce if they will follow Chevron's move.

i don't gets baket pinag uusapan ang rationing

    wala naman fuel shortage

tumataas ang presyo. pero meron supply. madami supply. kung may pambili, may mabibili

iba ang shortage. may pambili pero wala mabili

yan ang mangyayari pag nag price control ang gobyerno

like i said many times -- di bale mahal basta may mabili. mas mahirap pag may pambili pero wala mabili

the govt could make things worse if it imposes price control

Speculators are attacking the oil price ok! As long as may supply short live lang itong price increases when the speculation stops and the profit taking starts... Think 2008 pero a mini version of it...

eventually magiging Phil. owned ang Petron. owned by SMC

Buti naman rational thinking so far sa Malacanang, di populist. Just tighten your belts na lang and suck it in...

Oil at $100? Not yet cause for alarm, says Malacaņang

THE almost weekly increases in oil and petroleum prices are not yet a cause for alarm because the price swings are still within the expected range, Malacaņang said Wednesday.

“According to Energy Secretary Rene Almendras, the increases are still within government computations,” deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte said.

Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima earlier said the government had projected oil prices to range between $80 and $120 a barrel this year, and the upper end of the range had not yet been breached.

“We’ve reached $140 per barrel before,” Purisima said.

“The important thing is the target over longer periods of time is stable and is within the policy range.”

Crude oil futures in Asia rose Wednesday, with Nymex crude trading above $100 a barrel as investors grew more concerned about the political unrest in the Arab countries.

The prices are 25 percent higher compared with a year ago.

But Valte appealed to the oil firms not to take advantage of the volatile situation in the Middle East and North Africa, and to “stay faithful” to the true costs of their products.

Almendras would meet with the group Consumer and Oil Price Watch today, Thursday, to discuss the increases in petroleum prices, she said.

Almendras earlier announced that Saudi Arabia had assured the country of enough supply despite the growing tensions in the key oil-producing countries.

Libya is the third largest oil producer in North Africa, but the Philippines buys at least 80 percent of its crude from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran. Joyce Pangco Paņares

Other than preparing psychologically, there are practical things a motorist can do to adapt. Again, here are some useful tips:

see? you don't need the govt or environmentalists to push alternative energy in people's faces

all you need is market forces

when oil price is high enough, people will turn to alternatives

Its the environmentalists (and sometimes a few enlightened governments) that point out/show the alternatives, and then people follow and then the market follows.

IF gasoline gets to P60/L, my fuel mileage would greatly increase because less traffic on the road (like back in 2008).
