pajero is too good to be an AUV....
whatever they classify it, a pajero is a pajero, much like a land cruiser is a land cruiser...
parang ganito yan eh, yung Honda Civic is classified as a Sedan but so is BMW 320i or Mercedes Benz 220C...

pajero as AUV?
well, that was the result of the loophole back then at the excise tax law.
vehicles are categorized under 3 types: passenger car, utility vehicle (UV), and sport utility vehicle (SUV).
before the new excise tax law, all AUVs, some SUVs, pick-ups and vans were classified under UV... which enjoys a tax exemption when they have 10 seats or more... (only 5 seater like the Rav4 were classified as SUV) that is why the Pajero was categorized under the UV, so that it can enjoy the tax break. this was also the case with the CR-V. since they are classified under our law as UV and in the same boat as the AUVs, some people naturally came to the conclusion that they are AUVs also - which was the case with the CR-V.

September 7th, 2004 05:13 PM #13The government originally defined Asian Utility Vehicles (AUVs) as commercial vehicles that are originally Philippine-designed or similarly designed low-cost vehicles with a higher local content than Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and with a gross volume weight (GVW) of up to three tons.
to differentiate the AUV with the SUV, i think the key words are "commercial vehicle". an AUV's primary purpose is to transport goods and people for business and/or necessity. thats why there's a 10-seater requirement. secondary na ang recreation and sports. an SUV, on the otherhand, has its sights aimed at recreation, sports, fun, luxury and other leisure activities. this is of course on top of providing the necessary transport requirements.
physically ang difference na lang talaga ay ang 4wd or at least having a variant with 4wd or having a 4x4's ground clearance makes it an SUV. otherwise, AUV yun. or kung may nakita kang taxi or shuttle or pang delivery e considered nang AUV yung model na yun hehehe

basta para sa akin na di masyadong nakakaintindi sa sa mga UV na yan ang difference nila ay yung 'A' at 'S'. 'A' stands for Asian so sa Asia lang talaga sya existing. Yung 'S' stands for Sports so pwede sya sa mga sporting activities at ......... :freak:

before mabago yung excise tax last year, meron ako price list and detailed specification ng honda CR-V na galing talaga sa casa... and one of the specs say "10-seater AUV"
pero sino maniniwala na naging auv ang category ng CRV? syempre wala hehe.. pang tax break/exempt lang talaga ang 10seater noon..
