In my accident, you can see the front windshield shattered to bits, meaning it was tempered glass.

the shard of glass are not on the floor in the picture and is held by celluloid film otherwise, they would look like sugar grains on the dash, seats, and the floor

Vertical rainbow lines on your windshield are caused by oil/grease residue.

Just pointing out, the glass is tempered glass with a layer of plastic film. The glass shattered into bits but held in place by the plastic film.

    There is tempered laminated glass
    Laminated Tempered Glass
The science behind laminated glass and tempered glass can be combined to make laminated glass that is also tempered. When manufacturing this type of glass, the thickness of PVB used has to be just right or some level of bubbling can occur at the edges. This is a difficult process but if successful, laminated tempered glass can have many useful applications. Many car manufacturers are using this technology in their windows now.

In our Innova I think it's just Laminated glass, since when a tire iron (from a truck in front of us while inside SLEX) flew to the windshiled it just cracked but not shatter, the impact was pretty strong that even after hitting the windshield it ricocheted and dismembered the side mirror cleanly.

Evenly spaced and equally sized rainbows? I don't think it's oil or grease residue.

Another disadvantage of tempered glass is if you're hit by a stone in the highway, you won't be able to drive your car home as the entire windshield would already collapse or, if not, visibility will be totally compromised as the whole windshield will be covered with cracked lines.

With laminated glass, there will only be a tiny 'flowering' on the point of impact, at worst there will only be a very long crack line. But the windshield will still be securely attached and you will be able to drive your car home or to the nearest auto glass shop.

tempered glass shatters in relatively same smalll size fragments, laminated glass shatters like common glass, only the shards are still held in place by the celluloid film. your windshield has etched lettering on the lower driver side of the windshield describing it is laminated and a JIS or DOT or another safety standard marking

Another reason to consider OEM is the glass' clarity. As per US regulation (which may very well extend to us), AS-1 rated glass should be used for the front windshield and it should be laminated. AS-1 (or American Standard 1) specifies the best quality optics and is specifically for use on the front windshield. This is usually marked on the glass itself. See pic of it on my FD below.

AS-2 (inferior to AS-1) should be laminated and can be used anywhere on the vehicle except the windshield.

Lower than AS-1 quality optics would result in aberrations and distortion. And this is especially pronounced on vehicles with swooping windshields.
