Hi. I found your forum via Google. I have an 1998 Opel Vectra 2.0. Medyo marami na ang dapat kong ipaayos, kaso mamumulubi ako kung sa kasa ko lahat ipapagawa. So baka meron kayong mairerecommend na mga alternative shops na mas mura, or where I can buy parts (original and replacement). Here's a list of what I need to have repaired:

    1. RUSH: Palit timing belt plus top overhaul.
    2. Suspension sa harap may kalampag na.
    3. Power steering
    4. umiilaw yung ABS and TC (traction control) sa dashboard. Sabi sa casa (GM Qzn Ave.) palitan ko na daw yung mga computer modules, but I would like a second opinion.
    5. Speedometer: minsan gumagana, madalas hindi.

You can pm me, if you prefer it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Happy New Year!

Manager, thanks for the lead. Saan ba yung Fronte sa banawe? Talyer ba ito o shop lang that does repair services? Dumaan ako kanina sa banawe, but I was already late for work kaya 'di ako masyadong nakapaghanap.

On the way to work, I saw this Thunder shop at Q Ave. cor. Araneta. Anybody have feedback on them?

    GM Makati - 7k daw....

    Hi,

To start with, what kind of Opel do you have??

Fronte is specifically a parts store for Kia and Daewoo. But they also carry a few parts for the OPEL too but it is not a complete lineup. They carry a few service items such as filters and a few suspension parts. Since this is Banawe, so tabi tabi ang mga mekaniko and some insist they know how to service the opel cars. I never had the chance to know the mechanics there yet if they are capable.

Regarding Thunder. Some get confused with this since there are 2 Thunders at araneta cor. quezon ave. One is a Thunder service center catering to TOYOTA cars, the other thunder is on the other side which is a parts store for OPEL cars.

Thunder -Opel - do not service cars. They can refer a few home service mechanics but they do not have the OBDII computer to diagnose the cars. Just simple mechanical, electrical and suspension repairs. Thunder parts have reasonable prices on some of the parts as compared with the CASA.

I finally saw where Fronte is. There is a 3-4 car driveway besides it where, I guess, they service vehicles. And besides them also is an Opel parts shop.

I noticed this too. I was referring to the Thunder Auto Parts.

They did refer me to a mechanic who they claim worked for a GM casa. I've spoken to him na.

As much as I would prefer to have a GM casa repair my Vectra, they are quoting me a price that I simply cannot afford. So I have to go this "experienced home-service mechanic" alternative.

Hi tinsami1, what is wrong with the car??
The home service mechanics are not cheap. Mahal din sila maningil since home service.
The home service technician "rene" drives and owns a 2.0 Vectra wagon.. So I assume, sanay sya sa Vectra.
Or maybe also try the Fronte mechanics. Mas mura siguro maningil doon. The owner of Fronte owns a Vectra too.

Timing belt broke while the car was in use. I had it towed to GM Q Ave. The service advisor told me the latest similar case they had, the cost ran up to 80K. I definitely can't afford it. The price would definitely go down if I can get the parts cheaper in banawe, but the labor cost alone they quoted me at 18K plus the cost of the machine shop work that would be done (up to 15k).

Accdg. to the casa, it will take a couple of weeks to repair it. This is why I'm looking for a talyer na. I'll try to call Fronte. Thanks for the tip.

medyo pricey nga singil ng home service, mga 1k at the most. ako when i have my astra serviced, i have them check the defective part and ask their quote. what i then do is call up the casa and thunder and compare them all against the price of the mechanic.

more than half din ang na-save ko frm the casa estimate. if i opted to use replacements parts (compressor, evaporator, etc), mas malaki pa ang ma-save (maybe another half kasi yung original compressor ang talagang nagpamahal).

except for the radio na nag safe mode, okay naman pagkakagawa, so far. siguro naman, by the time i decide to finally sell ang car, ayos na ayos pa rin ang aircon. kasi it took 5 years and 135k+ kilometer reading bago bumigay ang aircon.not bad service actually, kaso yun nga lang, mahal talaga ang parts ng opel.

yes, i can recommend the mechanic who did the service, as far as airconditioning repair is concerned. somewhere in punta, sta ana ang bahay nya but he has a shop sa fairview. i'll post his number later on. nasa office kasi yung contact number nya.

kung basic cleaning lang kailangan, kayang-kaya na yan ng reputable aircon shops kasi pare-pareho naman lang ang aircon. in my case kasi, affected ang computer system ng car since nag fulltime on na yung dalawang fan (safe mode) and nag warning lamp na sa dashboard. may electronics involved kaya naghanap talaga ako ng marunong (and may available na pyesang makukunan kung sakali).

actually, i never had my aircon cleaned. kahit sa casa, hindi nila nalinis aircon car. as long as lumalamig, ang pinapalitan lang daw kasi dapat dyan eh yung pollen filter sa ilalim ng dashboard. if you replace it regularly, like i do, no need to have the aircon cleaned.of course, case to case basis ito.

eto nga pala contact nung gumawa ng aircon ko: his name is erning, 09194751236.inquire ka na lang sa kanya.taga punta yan.sa sta ana.dont ask me for directions kasi hindi ako personally nagdala ng car ko sa shop nya.may pinakisuyuan lang akong magdala and magbantay sa pagpapagawa ng car. taga-laguna pa kasi ako.

I think my drive belt tensioner is broken. It has this loud ticking sound that sounds like a diesel engine. Nasira ito on my way to Subic. Nakauwi ako without any mishaps travelling up to 280 kms. I was worried baka matanggal ang drive belt ko. Most opel mechanics say that this part is prone to break down around 50-60T Kms.

Here are the prices quoted to me:

Drive Belt Tensioner (Identical for ASTRA and Zafira)
    GM Q.A. -- P6,500 OEM
    Thunder -- P5,300 OEM
No German Replacement in stock till Feb.
    Fronte -- P4,500 German Replacement
