Yung nagrally sa US embassy, sabi nila hype lang yung Scarborough standoff para maka balik ang base militar ng imperialismong US. Damned commies...
na resolve na ba ito?
the government seems eerily quiet about this
so far, there are still two chinese "maritime patrol" vessels while the philippines has not sent back the brp del pilar
what happened to the fishing vessels and their poached cargo?

^ most likely a face-saving gesture for China and the PH by just mutually leaving Scarborough Shoal.
There was this idiot of a columnist in the Inquirer (Walden Bello) who's saying we can't resolve a territorial issue by having war games like Balikatan.
Well, I think he failed to notice that diplomacy hasn't worked either.

Out of the 8 Chinese fishing vessels, 3 have left the area already due to low provisions. Bringing with them the "likas yaman ng Pilipinas".
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Three of eight Chinese fishing boats at the center of a standoff between China and the Philippines have left a shoal in the disputed South China Sea, officials said Friday.
Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert Del Rosario told reporters that the fishing boats had the "freedom" to move, but he did not elaborate.
Dellosa told reporters that China had sent two additional surveillance ships to the area on Thursday, but that they apparently just replaced the two ships that left.
He said it was not clear whether the ships or the fishing boats that left took away the fishermen's catch.
Sa show of force pa lang talong talo na ang Pilipinas. Why don't we just cut the crap and admit na hindi naman talaga natin kakayaning makipagsabayan sa China. It would be useless to use all the rhetorics in the world na di naman natin kayang i back up militarily. Diplomacy? Diplomacy their faces! Ayaw lang talaga nilang harapin ang problema. Let the next administration (and the next, and so on and so forth) handle this problem for Christ's sake.
Panay "pera" sight sila. Ngayon tignan nyo - they left us in the pit. mga gunggong talaga ang mga yan. We look so pathetic militarily in the face of the international community.
I believe kakayanin nating idefend ang territoryo natin but we might not be able to do this right now. In due time.
then...call a friend! big brother---uncle Sam. Saw Sen Gringo Honasan on TV before the press. His unsolicited advice for PNoy is sensible as a plausible option. Abangan
Since the time of Marcos, the Philippine generals has made the Philippine Treasury as a "Piggy Bank", enriching themselves.
Now is the time that our military capabilitity is being tested, and the grade is F.
Tawag nga sa Pilipinas Sick Man of Asia. Cannot even stand up for ourselves.

apparently, all the chinese fishing vessels already left the area together with the two chinese maritime patrol vessels
now, only one chinese maritime patrol vessel and one dilapidated philippine navy vessel are left
talo pa rin ang pilipinas
nakatakas na ang lahat ng illegal fishers under escort of their own government
sa susunod, pag mag fishing ulit yan, may escort na yan at wala pa rin tayong magagawa

So what is the use of having the BRP Goyo if they can't even enforce so-called Philippine sovereignity over the Scarborough Shoals. Does the Navy of the Philippines have anything to show other than a kicked butt?
MANILA (Reuters) - Chinese fishing boats left a disputed area of the South China Sea with their catches on Saturday, ending a six-day standoff but dealing a blow to Philippine efforts to assert sovereignty over the area and protect marine resources.
The Philippines had wanted the Chinese fishermen to hand over their hauls of giant clams, corals and live sharks harvested near the disputed Scarborough Shoal, in return for safe passage out of the area.
China sent surveillance ships to protect its fishermen while the Philippines dispatched its biggest warship. Negotiations dragged on and all eight boats left without giving anything up.
"The Chinese fishing vessels had left the lagoon, a development which we had been working towards except for our not being able to confiscate their illegal harvest ... which was regrettable," Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Del Rosario said in a statement.
Ang hina naman ng Philippine Navy. They could have exploited the grave abuse of these chinese fishermen on our marine ecosystem by exposing those pictures they have taken (with the corals, endangered marine species, etc) to the international media for the world to see.
How can I even trust that we can "re-claim" (yes, sa alam ko, pag ma may ari na ito ng china after this incident) those islands?
Now there's is no need to figure out who is laughing while on their "face-saving" way out ....
And not far from the shoal, nakabantay na ang isang tsekwang warship. Ano kaya masasabi nito ni Pnoy?
The BRP "Goyo" is good for one thing and one thing only...coast guard duty.
It is a 40-year old cutter which was thrust into the role of a warship. Thing is, even now, all it can do is symbolically fly the flag over what we claim to be part of Philippine waters. It cannot and will not be combat capable, especially since most of the advanced combat equipment was removed from the ship prior to it being transferred to the Philippine Navy.
I bet not even PNoy would willingly order the BRP Goyo to engage the Chinese because all it will result in is lives of enlisted men being lost needlessly. The only acceptable outcome of this standoff on the government's part was a mutual withdrawal from the disputed area so that everybody can save face.
Not that I don't agree, but being able to confiscate those marine resources from the Chinese without resorting to some exercise of force on the part of the PH Navy against two other naval ships in the area is quite difficult.
If the PH wants to re-assert its territorial rights, it must not only resort to diplomacy but commit to building up its capability to police and patrol its borders out in the sea.
The Vietnamese tried and 64 of them were massacred by the Chinese by 20mm bacal guns on the Spratlys.
Watch and decide if the Filipinos would have a chance against the Chinese.
The only thing the Chinese fear is a US Carrier Battle group.

correct me if i am wrong but the philippine navy/coast guard already boarded these chinese vessels before the chinese maritime patrol ships came along
the confiscation could have been done there
then keep the illegal goods onboard the brp del pilar and refuse to hand it over
IMHO, the philippines lost a lot of face here, plain and simple
