Pasay City Mayor is obviously not opposed to the concert. He is just doing enough to make the anti-gaga people satisfied that "action" is being taken.

He has a lot at stake, the taxes and fees Pasay City would earn from this concert must be a lot. he wouldn't want it to evaporate.

Palace: No need for govt to get involved in Lady Gaga row
    May 19, 2012 12:47pm

Claiming the matter is between some “offended” groups and concert organizers, Malacaņang said the government is keeping a hands-off stance on protests against Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta a.k.a. Lady Gaga in Pasay City this coming week.

“This is something between those supposedly offended and the artist that is coming in. We see no need why the government should be involved,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said on government-run dzRB radio.

Some Filipino religious groups scored Lady Gaga for her allegedly anti-Christian songs.

Valte Also said the government will maintain its refusal to comment on whether it will follow South Korea and Indonesia's lead in not allowing the controversial singer's concert.

On Friday, “religious” groups and personalities affiliated with the Catholic Church urged the Pasay City government not to allow the concert Lady Gaga, at the SM Mall of Asia May 21 and 22.

Election lawyer Romulo Macalintal and former Manila mayor Jose Atienza Jr. sought an audience with Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto, citing the singer’s “anti-Christian” songs.

An earlier report on dzBB radio said Atienza even pushed for the arrest of the singer if they hear her sing.

On the other hand, a group of youths allied with former Rep. Benny Abante held a rally at city hall, scoring Lady Gaga and urging the city government not to allow the concert.

The youths from Biblemode Youth Philippines scored the controversial singer-artist for her song “Judas,” which they said mocks Jesus Christ and promotes Judas Iscariot as a protagonist.

For its part, the Pasay City government reminded organizers of the concert of the anti-obscenity “provisions” of its permit for the upcoming concert of Lady Gaga.

Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto also formed an inspection team to “monitor” Lady Gaga’s concert.

Calixto was quoted in the report as saying one of the provisions in the permit issued to the concert organizers was that there would be no obscenity, including nudity or anything offensive.

Very good music video. Creative use of religious imagery.

But I don't understand why Gaga was stoned at the end.

MMDA to motorists: Avoid roads near Lady Gaga concert venue on May 21 and 22
    May 20, 2012 12:23pm
    1 1 Email0 ShareThis2

For the next two days, motorists and commuters passing near the SM Mall of Asia in southern Metro Manila may have to take alternate routes due to the concert of controversial artist Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta a.k.a. Lady Gaga.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority issued the advice Sunday after receiving information tickets for the concert scheduled at 8 p.m. of May 21 and 22 had been sold out.

A report on dzBB radio quoted the MMDA as saying motorists are particularly advised to avoid parts of Roxas Boulevard, Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Buendia.

MMDA officials expect traffic in these areas to start piling up as early as 5 p.m., the report added.

It advised motorists to take other roads including C-5, or use the South Luzon Expressway instead of Roxas Boulevard if going to Cavite.

The report also said the MMDA is coordinating with MOA administration to open some roads to ease the traffic flow.

But the MMDA advised motorists who have no pressing business in the MOA area to avoid the area if possible.

Philippine rally demands Lady Gaga ban
AFP NewsAFP News – 10 hours ago

About 50 riot police blocked a major Manila intersection to stop the marchers from reaching the shopping mall complex where the American singer is due to perform on May 21-22.

Lady Gaga has already faced opposition elsewhere on the Asia leg of her tour, including in Indonesia where police denied her show a permit amid threats from Islamic hardliners.

The Philippines is a deeply-religious Catholic majority country and many of the demonstrators Saturday were from the group Biblemode International, whose founder said Lady Gaga's lyrics were blasphemous.

Baptist preacher Benny Abante, a former member of the Philippine parliament said the song "Judas" mocked Jesus Christ.

"You can't just say, 'Okay, I'm an artist, I'll make an artistic expression'," Abante told about 300 fellow protesters.

"You stomp on our Lord while saying you're a fame hooker, you're a prostitute wench," he said referring to the lyrics of the song.

In a statement the group called on Philippine President Benigno Aquino to stop the concerts "as this is a direct affront to the moral and religious values that our nation has been known for".

Aquino spokeswoman Abigail Valte said the national government did not wish to wade into the issue.

The city government has already warned Lady Gaga to refrain from nudity, lewd conduct and blasphemy when her Asian tour reaches the Philippines, and said inspectors will be at the venue to ensure she does not overstep the mark.

Renen de Guia, president of the Lady Gaga concert's local promoters Ovation Productions, said those who have purchased concert tickets were well aware her performance was all for fun.

"People have the freedom to express themselves artistically," he said.

"Those who oppose what Lady Gaga is doing are not being forced to watch the concert," he had said on ABS-CBN television on Friday.

In Indonesia Islamic hardliners said they were ready to die to stop Lady Gaga from performing in June. And during the star's concert in Seoul in March a Christian group vowed to take action to stop young people from being "infected with homo***uality and ****ography".

But Lady Gaga has so far failed to tone down her performances, riding on to the stage on a mechanical horse, wearing a black bodysuit and an enormous black metal headpiece.

Filipino Christian conservatives denounce Lady Gaga concert
    ReutersReuters – 16 hours ago

MANILA (Reuters) - Conservative Christian groups in the Philippines on Saturday marched near a shopping mall to demand the cancellation of Lady Gaga's two concerts next week, saying her songs carried "demonic" undertones.

The protests in the heavily Catholic Philippines followed a decision this week by authorities in Indonesia, a secular state but with the world's largest Muslim population, to refuse her a permit to perform in Jakarta next month.

In Manila, dozens of anti-riot police stopped hundreds of protesters from two groups from marching to the concert venue with placards reading "Stop Lady Gaga concert" and "Don't support Lady Gaga".

A much larger group prayed and sang hymns as the performer arrived in the evening in the city. Protesters planned to hold a prayer vigil on Sunday ahead of the performances.

Concert organizers said they were aware of no plans to cancel the concerts, with fans prepared to pay up to 15,000 pesos ($350) for tickets -- in a country where the average monthly wage is about 10,000 pesos.

"We're hoping that if they will continue the concert, they should tone it down," Benny Abanted, a Christian pastor, told reporters. "She should not sing songs that could offend our spiritual senses or wear bikinis in front of the crowd."

Other group members described her songs as "grossly blasphemous, immoral, lewd and carrying demonic and occultist undertones".

Protests in South Korea, which has Asia's second largest population of Christians after the Philippines, prompted authorities to bar under-18s from Lady Gaga's concert.
