The bare Sorento is an LX R-eVGT (priced at P1.59m) essentially right? It's just the "bare" one is a bit "bare-r" and on a supposedly limited run?

Was doing some number crunching with my Sorento-buying friend. He heard a rumor about a P1.430M bare diesel LX with roof rails, foglamps, cargo cover and mud guards. No info about the spoiler. I couldn't justify to myself the additional P100K for just that though.

Roofrails, cargo cover and rear spoiler OEM but sourced outside of casa shouldn't cost more than P40K, i would think. I wouldn't get the OEM fogs though, but instead head on over to garyq for them HID fogs. Hehehe!

yes, the already bare LX @ 1.590m. the limited bare-r are the ones @ 1.230m M/T and 1.330m A/T. the 1.430m you mentioned might be the standard LX @ 1.590m after discounts. because AFAIK, yung mga items na yun lang ang difference ng LX sa bare-r ones.hehe. the 1.430m price is IMHO the right price for the LX. inoverprice lang ng kia dati siguro like what they did to the other models. aggresive na ang pricing ng kia lately ha . after magtakeover ni Ginia Domingo as president ng CAC.

haha. oo butasin nyo nalang yung honeycomb cover ng bare-r sorento.haha. nagkaproblem nga ako pinatint ko full yung front windshield ng sorento. poor visibility. kailangan na din ng better lighting. i'm not sure kung OK na HID na lang sa projector HL or iparetro ke sir gary. lalo nat gusto ko rin ipa reseal yung HL laging moist kasi.hehe

I really think they should've been more aggressive with their pricing in the first place. That's what got folks initially hooked to Hyundai. Even if buyers choose to look past Hyundai, Hyundai's made their money already. The Sportage's pricing is very competitive. People look past the 1.8L Elantra because of waiting lines, and the gas Tucson coz of price and being too common. The Sportage came in looking aggressive, and priced aggressively. Ayun, hot car.

The Sorento is, I believe, a good mid-sized SUV that's been overlooked because of the company's bad pricing. Why is it when folks as about a car-based mid-sized SUV, folks usually think Santa Fe more than Sorento?

As to the projector, I asked Gary and he believes the Sorento's low beam projector is better than that of the Santa Fe. So there's a plus there. And Gary's fog lamp projector is wider and brighter than any fog lamp, and perhaps many projectors out there nowadays, plus there is that big space on the left and right ends of the bumper that needs an accent.

I understand your point. Fix the halogen low beam projector first, para max headlight illumination, and then possibly go for the fog retro. I might probably go this route if I were getting an 'R' Sorento, and if I had the money for it. My friend's not going to plunk down that much cash though, plus his point of reference is an HID kit on the low beams of his outgoing Carens, kaya getting the same HID on Sorento low beams makes the output similar to what he's used to, plus the fog retro which serve to address the aesthetics and lighting performance issues. win-win!

ang laki ng discount from 1.590M to 1.430M yan sorento LX 4x4. well, reality set in na kasi, di tulad some 2 years ago, Sorento was riding with the popularity of the Santa Fe. but the thing is Sorento is Boxy, even the Montero has more curves than it.

in this age of the battle of fluidic SUVs, the Sorento is just too dated to look at.

now that oversupply na ang production ng Kia Sorento, mag-normalize na ang pricing nya di katulad ng ridiculous pricing na pinauso ng Kia Phils when they offered it here.


I have a 2006 Santa Fe pero talaga lang, mas maganda pa din exterior styling nya compared to this 2009 designed Sorento.
with this boxy design, it will only appeal to the 50's up something

kung ang mga cliente and bosses mo eh 50 up, this will appeal to them and probably look up to you. yan lang naman habol ko dyan, use your cars depende sa image na kelangan mo i-portray. and also with the MMDA and authorities, if you drive your Sorento kahit teenager ka pa, respetuhin ka nila basta naka-tint din harapan mo. so yan ang trade-off. it's not all bad

yun image + money, that's given for the old farts. eh we belong to the new age info generation, yun tipong you get the same reactions/praises pero secretly eh wala ka naman malaki nilabas.

that adds up to the adrenalin. two birds, you portrayed an image of elitism and probably expensive pero konti lang hirap or damage mo.

yun ang gusto gusto ko na-feel. eh ano mapapala ko sa Prado na tig 3M, naka-image ka nga tapos 3M nilagay mo lang lahat dun. pano na yun iba pang image project / experiments mo, hindi lang naman sa cars dapat.

gusto gusto ko talaga may mind component, kasi you can read a lot about the person na nabile mo hehe, for further experiments sa future.

Depende naman sa needs mo eh. Identify what you're looking for in a car so you don't get swayed by every single suggestion thrown at you.

The 1.23M Sorento is a manual and looks very bare. If you're getting that, chances are you're gonna spend for fogs, roof rails and side mirrors so dagdag pa sa cost. It also has much less features compared to the GT-A. No automatic wipers, headlamps, climate control and whatnot. No fancy audio system. In exchange for all that, you get much, much more space.

Of course, the two cars drive very differently too. With its higher center of gravity, the Sorento will feel less nimble through corners. On the flipside, potholes and steep parking ramps are no longer a problem with its high ground clearance compared to the GT-A.

The Sorento will have slightly better fuel consumption by virtue of its eVGT diesel engine. However, maintenance will be more costly.

Personally, if I only had one car, I'd get a GT-A over a Sorento because I don't need the extra space and I take a lot of spirited drives. Cheaper too.
