We're waiting for funds muna kaya I'm holding off going to the casa until next thursday.

Grabe, the hose for the powersteering fluid plus the clip, and another rubber part in the engine which needs to be replaced PLUS the 45k PMS was estimated to cost at P19k plus...

I'm thinking of having it done at Mandaluyong or Pasay... which do you guys think's better and faster? Parang nababagalan ako sa Kia Alabang e. Last time I had a basic maintenance check (yung change oil and disk brake dahil napudpod na), I left the vehicle with them around 9am and they released it at 4pm!

Mandaluyong na lang siguro para just in case, I can still go to Bernie's motorworks as per vin d's advise.

I had the suspension parts repaired by toti of zee when I got the unit last yr. I think scope of work done involves conversion of the 4 shocks and polymer injections on some joints, but no repairs I guess were made on the strut bushings (my dad was the one who brought the van there as I was busy with my work). Anyway, how many bushings are we talking about here and how much would it hurt my pocket? One thing I noticed about this is that the sound is less prominent if there are a lot of occupants in the van. What do you think?

The dreaded oil pump chain is scaring the hell out of me, how much does it normally cost repairing this?

Had the same problem. Had it repaired in Cavite during one of my trips there. Cost. P40 for the bushing and P350 for labor..No more kalampag!

guys, does anyone here knows where the speed sensor of carnival is located?
my speedometer has been working intermittently these past two months (and lately, almost never). it sometimes works when i tinker with the wirings leading to the dashboard but when it does, it runs only for about 10 km or less.

my feel is that the problem could just be a loose connection but it could also be sensor itself and it needs replacement. Thanks in advance

The speed sensor is with the tranny, afaik. and accessing it is also a pain in the ***

in my case before, the whole speedometer was faulty. had to fork out 5k for the module.

I've been out of circulation at this thread for a while, wala masyadong problem sa ride namin e. But because of this thread, I learned what to watch out for.

A few months ago I've been hearing an intermittent whining noise when I turn my steering wheel to the left. Di naman palagi, siguro once a week lang.

Then last week while stepping on the gas and turning slightly left sa skyway pababa ng amorsolo, the whining noise appeared, at mas malakas kaysa usual and I could feel a slight vibration on the steering wheel and gas pedal, parang maganit lang. I stepped on the brakes slightly and the noise disappeared only to come back when I stepped on the gas pero pahina na nang pahina until the noise disappeared altogether. I immediately went to Kia Alabang to have it checked.

They looked at the underside of the sedona then one of the mechanics drove it around pero wala silang makita. Observe na lang muna daw.

Di na ulit bumalik yung noise until this morning when I drove to work, parang mas maganit yung tunog ng engine pag apak ko ng gas and may loud whining noise sa background. Nawala din sya after I left our subdivision.

Hayz... now I've prepared a tow truck's number para kung tumigil na lang bigla coz the only way to find the problem I think is for the part to completely break down...
we experience that noise too before . and it turn out to be a worn out alternator pulley (the pulley is clutch type). unfortunately, there was no pulley part available unless i buy a brand new alternator. i was lucky to get a surplus one in evangelista, makati for Php300.

other two possibilities are the auto tensioner or the main pulley. auto tensioner of the sedona will cost you around 3k while the auto tensioner of the carnival will cost you around php600-900. in the case of the main pulley. there is vulcanized ring of rubber in the middle of the pulley. when this starts to squek. this means that the rubber is detached for the pulley and will eventually totally come off. you will notice that you will loose you power steering, the alternator light will light up, and the a/c will not cool anymore (this i experienced with our pregio).

you can go to fronte and have them diagnose your engine with their scanner. i don't know if they will charge you for this. but when i spoke to the owner. he did it for free:-)

    benchph1,

Thanks. i followed the wirings leading from the sensor and discovered an uninsulated part - it seems that this gets into contact with the body causing the erratic speedometer. i wrapped electrical tape around it and the speedometer is working fine again since yesterday, 'hope it holds.

yup. and you're right - it was pain in the *$& to access especially that i traced the wires from above the engine- i was practically working blind. and one more thing, it was stupid of me to do so immediately after using the car... haha, i sported a burn mark on my left arm the size of p5-coin for one day

Hi, I'm a newbie here and I just bought a 2nd hand Kia Carnival A/T 2.9 1998 model. So sorry if my following questions/problems were already answered in this thread but please bear with me.

Days ago, my family and I went to mountain resort. I have no problem on the way there even on uphill. But when we arrived at the place I noticed na may ibang amoy inside the car na parang sunog. I also noticed na parang may kaunting smoke came out of the steering wheel. Hindi ko masyadong pinansin because I thought that it was just a fog because of the whether at the mountain. I turned off the engine and after awhile, I started it again and parked my car. Ok naman.

On our way home, with just few kms away kung saan kami nanggaling, suddenly the car stopped. The engine was still running but the wheels are no longer moving forward even the gear is in the "D" (drive) mode. I tried to change the gear to "R" (reverse) but nothing happened. I also tried "2" and "L" but still wala parin. Bottom line, I just called a towing company to tow my car.

Can someone help me on this?

Hi Mr. Benchph1. I just hope you can help me on my problems too. I just bought a 1998 model Kia Carnival A/T. I like the ride and the space inside. Hindi matagtag, just like riding a simple car. But here is my problem, actually I already posted my problem on the page 188 but here it is.

I used my kia going to mountain resort. It's a 75 kms. There were lots of uphills. When we get there, I noticed na may kaunting smoke lumabas from the steering wheel and smells like parang may nasunog. I did not take it seriously, kasi baka fog lang from the mountain. On our way home, a few kilometers pa lang from where we went, while I'm on the "D" (drive) mode, it suddenly parang hindi na kumagat yung transmission. Until nag full stop na sya. I tried the other gears like "R", "2" and "L" pero wala talaga. The engine is still ON and I didn't see any sign of overheating. I have no other choice but to call a roadwatch and have my car towed.

What seems to be the problem? Please help me.

Honestly i don't know about mechanics. But I think I should learn now by using this site. I am really learning a lot.

Actually, my car is currently at the service center right now since yesterday. Until now they still not figure it out where the problem is. They checked the wirings but they said that it's ok. I will tell them to check on the clutch.

    Thanks Bro.

The mechanic said that they found a burned ATF. They will need to bring down daw the transmission. Mahirap and matagal ba ito? How much kaya magastos ko?

Hi rbhizon, I just remember I have some sort of problem like this before. There was a time I bring the car to casa for change of oil pump ( the well known problem) and likewise the other bearings and chain so they have to pull down the engine. After they assembled the engine, so suddenly the car will not run like yours. engine start and able to shift the AT but just wont drive the vehicle. So they have to pull down again the engine. This time they find a defective oil pump also but in the transmission. There is an oil pump in the automatic transmission which pum the ATF to drive the shifting solenoid. This may probably one of the possiblity. Hope this can help.

Thanks way22. I will tell that to the mechanic of the casa.
Actually the mechanic also suggested to have the transmission replaced even surplus.
I don't know if this is the best solution to my problem. I just have bought my carnival for 4 days until it broke down. Now I'm thinking if I did the right choice of buying it. Though I really like to comfort of the ride but with this kind of repair, I'm not sure if I can afford it.
