I also had a problem with my Carnival's horn before, but my problem was on the horn side (loose metal contacts), not the steering wheel side.
the problem is the ribbon wire connecting the steering wheel to the unit's electricals. as a temporary solution i braided 3 wires (for the horn and the airbag) to replace the ribbon wire as i can't find one during the weekend. i did not connect the radio controls yet as it is impossible to add more wires. i will try to find a replacement from deeco or alexan as it seems that auto supplies do not have it (i visited goodgear last saturday and they said they don't sell this kind of wires). so far the replacement is holding out well, i might even keep it for good since i am thinking of the replacing the stereo anyway.

just to inform you guys (so that you may have reference when the same problem happens to you). i have restored full function of all the connections from the steering wheel using a rainbow wire (not the same as the original ribbon wire) purchased from deeco.

    more power to all

    Thanks, utakabo.

Would you happen to have a photo of the rainbow wire for peeps like myself who are electronically challenged?

this is an example of the rainbow wire i used. the ones from deeco comes with 20 wires but you can split off some of the wires. our unit has 6 terminals but i decided to use two wires for each terminal. it costs P25/ft and i used a total of 6 ft.

this is not the actual picture of my unit but this is where the wire goes into. the wire is wound around the center column (the assembly is called clock spring as it look exactly like that)

this is an example of the ribbon wire for the steering wheel. ours is white but its the same type

as you can see the original is much flatter than the rainbow wire but according to one electrician i consulted, this type of wire tends to become brittle with time and is easily severed when folded. whereas the rainbow wire is more flexible.

i am having the same problem with my carnival since yesterday. the steering becomes stiff and it needs considerable effort to make a hard right turn, at times, the steering wheels needs to be assisted in order to center itself after the turn.

i hope that lubrication solves the problem. i've been traversing wet roads almost daily since the rainy season started. i have checked the power steering pump and it seems ok, no leaks, no whining sound.

    pasilip ko kaya sa rapide...
