Overpriced... yes. But I wouldn't say Alterra is underrated. It has it's own way of competing with other brands, hence... the name.

Here's where the subwoofer is located and I believe the sound system is already self-amplified just like the Pioneer in-car DVD 5.1 system, though I'm not sure which brand is OEM for Alterra.

IMO... the Alterra is quite good if you just take a step back from the Fortuner hype. If you don't really need 4WD capability that is.

the design of alterra is so-so i just dont like the side profile yung arching pillar sa dulo parang gusto ko lagyan ng black material to hide that....

aside from that its quite oks sa looks and another negative sa alterra is the 3rd row seat parang umuupo ka na sa tabla sana man lang may ginawang kaunting foot weel maybe 1/2 feet oks na

I dont own an alterra but I just would like to share my short test drive experience with it.

I finally test drove the alterra after going to the toyota wonderland at the WTC last week(Isuzu Manila offered a test drive inside their compound and its only "atras-avante" thing last june).

First of all, the 3rd row seat is very very cramped, plus its very hard to get into it. Manual tranny is........hey! that sucks!Shifting is very hard even if you step on the clutch fully. Ride is bouncy!!! Cabin is noisy specially on uneven roads and light pot holes. I tried seating on the middle seat which is as hard as an ironing board and i couldnt take it.

Thats what I experienced and thats my opinion.

the alterra looks good in the back side. I've experienced this myself while I was driving next to one, sinundan ko pa ng matagal kasi gandang-ganda ako sa likod nya, pero the sides dont do justice talaga. it's like a D-Max with Fibre Glass lang
unlike the Fortuner kahit alam mong Hilux ang harapan, SUV talaga ang dating at par with the Pajeros, Explorers, Patrol. and not a pickup-based SUV.

There was this one time in traffic, two vehicles in front of me were a Black Fortuner Diesel & two-tone Silver Blue Pajero Fieldmaster. walang sinabi yun Pajero sa design ng Fortuner and in fact, mas mataas pa yun Fortuner. am just wondering why late model used fieldmasters today are being sold at more than 1M pa din, tingin ko mahirapan na talaga ibenta yun mga yun.

Sir, do you have some figures to help us evaluate the vehicle objectively? For example, nearly all vehicles would be cramped for Yao Ming but even a mini-cooper would be spacious to a midget. I am curious regarding the ride quality of Alterra because your friend MBT evaluated it as "boaty..." which indicates that the suspension is soft. Many people also said the same thing regarding Land Cruiser (LC80) and Ford Expedition. For the middle seat just fold it and use it as armrest. Did you notice a cup holder at the back?

    horexen,

the 3rd row is spacious but very uncomfortable. the suspension feels soft when driving it and the body will roll liberally when cornering, even at moderate speeds. the ride isn't bad, a little bit of bouncing and bobbing that you wouldn't mind, but bumps send the body structure shivering.

    cardo,

the highest number printed on the speedometer dial is hardly indicative of the actual top end of the vehicle hehehe

Keep it coming guys. This is the only way we can get more info on Alterra. Ewan ko, totoo nga yatang mahiyain ang mga Alterra owners that they're too quiet, or they're just being too modest? Hehehe.

If there's too many negative comment about the vehicle. No Alterra owners would ever post.

Sa NLEX mas maganda, mas mahaba, mas konti istorbo sa daan at mas makinis ang asphalt.

Sabi nila pag dating ng 60-80kph tsaka pa lang ginaganahang tumakbo ang Alterra.Hehhehe

i think 180 would be a fair estimate for the alterra's top speed. anyway, largely academic naman itong figure na ito, i myself have never exceeded 150 in my life hehe
