    hi benzmizer,

im planning to install fender flares for my 2000 Fuego 4x2. any recommendation?

    Q's.
    1. w/c is better? fiberglass or plastic? No question, PLASTIC.

    2. can either of the two be painted so it can match the car color? As for the OEM overfenders used for the Fuego Sport 4x4, they are body colored. Sporty but subtle. Black overfenders (for me) prject more on the "off-road look"

    3. if ever plastic is better, any recommendation? Well, that's the question... would you be able to find one? From a manufacturer's standpoint, plastic (likely injection-type) is better than fiberglass (FRP) due to consistency. FRP are considered "handmade"... ergo, for masspro, this is a liability. Back to my question, would you be able to find one? Likely not since from my knowledge, even the Fuego Sport overfenders produced during the late 90s-early '00s are made of FRP.

So your best bet is: have a local FRP manufacturer make one for you. They may need a copy to pattern the overfenders (that is if you want the size used for OEM) or simply design a new one yourself. But I must warn you, if you are to make one set only, cost would be high for you need to pay for the FRP mould.

    Good Luck!

    thanks so much..

    Martin,

At least you know where the consumption is coming from. No worries, we all go through that. Effective planning and time management may help the hurrying bit especially the when the time comes when priorities in life begin to shift towards more economical driving. Hehehe.

About the flares, we can talk about it in the group and maybe we can all pitch in for the mold to make prices more acceptable. Eyeball na!

    ask ko lang thoughts nyo.

from a dead start, do you start on 1st gear or 2nd gear?

share naman your thoughts guys. salamat.

Sir natural lang yan.Dalawa naging fuego ko talagan 1rst gear ako pag start from a dead stop hirap sa second.Totoo ung mitsu L300 khit second gear mo istart okay lang.Bukod sa mas malakas ang torque nang 4d56 iba ang gear ratio nang trans at differential.

+1 to this. Besides, I would not personally recommend that you get used to starting at 2nd gear specially if you have load.

    Mart,

Its all about the gear ratio. I too, have noticed this with the other pick ups (other brands) in the group. One thing is that the Fuego has a higher top speed. Don't worry, the Isuzu Fuego is still one of the top performers in its class. The 2800 Turbo was way ahead of the rest in its class when it came out in the nineties. Torque-wise, there is nothing really for you to worry about. Just keep in mind the fact that our rides are diesel powered and were meant for a specific purpose. Today's Ford Focus diesel was designed for a different purpose also. Keep watching your exhaust smoke. If you are emitting a lot of black smoke, then efficiency is going down. drive within the efficient limits. Sa eyeball natin maaayos iyan.

    Blast,

    great to have you back!

pag naka-test drive ako ng ibang fuego then malalaman ko talaga ang sagot. pls correct me if im wrong but i think directly comparing it to other 4ja1's (such as hilanders, crosswinds) is not enough. i think i need to actualy drive a fuego same as mine to see if there would be any difference at all. Ill let you drive my truck sa eyeball natin for you to check also.

Pero sa tingin nyo, iba-iba ba ang gear ratios ng hilander, crosswind, and fuego? Iv always wondered.

    Thanks guys.

    Hey, Mart!

I'm back all right, but my Fuego is still relaxing in Quezon. I still have to find a new feed pump then go back there to install it. I'm sure it has something to do with the contamination in the fuel tank because when we took down the feed pump to clean it, it was full of debris inside. However, the pump wouldn't return to normal working order anymore. Gastos na naman after a little over a year of use. I wonder if adding a pre-filter to the system before the feed pump will do good. Anyone have any experience on this?

    On the gear ratios:

Yes, each vehicle has a different purpose. I remember when we used to drag race in high school, we always searched for pick up truck or station wagon rear ends in order to get a lower gear ratio. Highlanders and Crosswinds may have lower gear ratios than sedans but theirs are definitely taller than the pick ups. I am not sure about whether the Fuego 4x4s and 4x2s have different rear ends though. There is also a transmission gear size to think about. I'm almost certain the 4x4 has bigger gears compared to 4x2 but then again, I am not 100% certain.
