Can somebody pls post pictures ng TCI and VGT CRDI variant ng GS?...Para makita exterior differences ng dalawang variants. I have no idea rin kasi sa itsura ng TCI and how would we know by the looks alone kung TCI or CRDI VGT na sya. Thanks
Most notable difference is black yung front/rear bumper and door handles ng tci, while two tone with body cladding yung vgt. May maliit na window din sa sliding door ng vgt while sa tci wala.
Add pa natin. Yung tci. May saksakan ng key sa bawat door handles. Pati sa rear cargo door. Sa crdi VGT sa driver's side door lang may saksakan ng key.
Bro.,- iyong TCI M/T lang ang black and bumpers... kasi pag TCI A/T,- body colored ang bumpers.... this is for HARI units...
Kasi pag grey market units,- VGT na sila lahat,- pero kapag CVX,- body colored din ang bumpers at walang side cladding/two-tone...
Most noticeable difference between TCI and VGT units,- iyong "yosi window", sa right sliding door ng VGT... Sa TCI units,- wala iyan....

Was having a discussion with the brother-in-law about a 3,000km used TCi vs say a Fortuner or GL Grandia both with the same 2.5L D-4D engine last Sunday. He likes the layout of the GS, which we were riding then with 7 adults and 4 kids and some cargo, but he was thinking twice about if the power was enough. The TCi does have about the same hp ratings, but lower and later peak torque ratings compared to the Toyota engine. And there's the weight factor, too.
I was relating to him CVT's experience with the Gen 3 TCi vs the GS TCi, and how the newer one felt more powerful despite having a heavier curb weight. And that was going up to Baguio loaded at that. I told him to have a test drive to put doubts to rest. I told him that expectedly the CRDi should be faster, but that the TCi would be no laggard especially when compared to his '99 gas Revo. Not sure how it stacks up with a 2.5L Fortuner or Grandia. Any thoughts?
His next concern was the durability of the TCi engine. Would having to work harder throuhout its service life (due to the heavier body being hauled) take its toll on the length of its service life? His point was, the CRDi engine could be well matched with the weight it has to lug around, but the TCi might be a bit strained. What happens more than 5 years down the line?
Hmmmm,- I really haven't noticed bro. I am obviously wrong. When I say "yosi window",- this is the "small cut" on the glass window near the second row of seats.
Wala ang TCi niyan bro.,- plain glass window lang.....

Matibay naman ang TCi engine. Regular change oil/filter lang ang katapat. Our Gen2 A/T Starex TCi, now 10 yrs old with 105k km mileage still performs like new, with (fully loaded) trips from Ilocos to Bicol in one summer, many times to Baguio and Isabela, once to Banaue. I only had to replace fuel filter once (some two years after water contamination incident) and had the timing belt replaced (as manual recommended) at 80k km although it was still intact.

In my opinion lang, my gs vgt's engine feels just right lang for the heavy body, acceleration is brisk although not phenomenal. The tci engine make do with 74 horsepower less and around 170nm of torque short, but with an equally heavybody. Now for me that screams under power. Although some swear that the tci engine is enough, I'll hold my judgment until i get to try a tci unit.
Well, that's a good point. The CRDi GS's acceleration is great compared to the local competition. I think it's enough for the local conditions though.
I was able to take the Super Grandia of my friend up to about 140 kph on SLEX when it was brand new. Never tried flogging the aerodynamice brick past that though. The GS can go 50 kph more tho.
