based on this forum, the only people who have gotten loss of power are those who upgraded to the 1st firmware. Bratski/mexo/jayd are the ones I know who experienced this. Their units got fixed by ECU replacement then updated to Euro 2.

Mine was updated from factory to Euro 2. No loss of power running on shell unleaded. I have not heard of anyone here who from factory to Euro2 has experienced loss of power.

I have not read any reports of the other manufacturers cars having any problems.

My purpose for posting is simply to find out whether or not the issue has been resolved with no performance compromise.(loss of power).I appreciate makro trying to help, but in my opinion, telling your customers that they must use premium fuel in a 1.4L,doesn't seem like the way to correct a problem. It is a cheap way to fix it (for the manufacturer) but not so much for the customer who pays higher fuel costs because the manufacturer couldn't,or wouldn't fix the problem correctly.

Anyone else care to share their experience or insight?

I've heard from one overseas fuel specialist that Hyundai's ECUs don't adjust well to poor fuel quality. And that's what the problem boils down to, basically... the mix varies from station to station and brand to brand. Two fuels marked 93 RON (research octane number) will often not have the same MON (motor octane number). Now RON is a measure of how easily a fuel "knocks"... but MON is more important to some people, because it shows how easily a fuel knocks under load... which better represents real world conditions.

Then add the problem of ethanol mix, water and poor station maintenance, and sometiems even the RON won't match what is marked on the pumps.

Thus: If your car is sensitive. Stick to a known, trusted fuel brand, and fill up only from a single station (in good repair), so if anything goes wrong, you know who to blame.
I think i heard here that accent are direct imports from korea and the engine is basically configured on korean condition (fuel mix, etc). I maybe wrong but i think we have no choice but to adapt the higher octane in this case?

This was something that I was willing to experiment on. Unfortunately, when I had the oppurtunity to check, the Accent's plugs are NGK LKR6B-11E. A model that is not exactly available in most stores - plus the heat range is already "6". I doubt if we will find a "7" anytime soon.

Hi guys, I got pointed to this thread by a friend because I was planning on buying a brand new latest-model Accent.

I started reading the first few pages... then the last few pages... but I really don't have the time to read all 166 pages of the thread just to see what conclusion you guys reached. If you don't mind, maybe I just ask kung ano na ang naging resulta nung discussion about the Accent engine knock?

What's the cause? What's the solution? Are all models affected? Is it a critical problem? What things should I check especially when I purchase an Accent? Is the latest model Accent still a good buy?

I really like the Accent over the other cars I'm considering, but this issue worries me about the Accent's reliability.
