No paddle shifters = cost reduction kahit may price increase. Sad.

to all who are saying that the new civic is "bland" and "boring", think again...its lighter and smaller than the previous model, which is great for those who are sensitive to power to weight ratios and who knows maybe honda would drop a better K-series engine on the 2.0....so there goes the boring part. The bland will soon subside with the amount of aftermarket accessories that will be available in the coming months/years. Filipino eyes are flooded with images of flashy and curvy korean cars like the elantra and tucson that they no longer appreciate the linear but sleek look of japanese cars.

The 1m+ price is just so because it is a "JDM" model with "1st world market" accesories...wait till the thai built ones arrive

Its better to just wait for the redesign late this year or early next year. Reservations are so-so as of yesterday.

Yup. Civic 9.1 most likely. Honda is rushing a refresh by the end of the year. Check the 2012 Honda Civic Redesign Info Discussed | 2012 Honda Civic Forum

    Possible list of changes raw:
"1) restyle the car’s front end
    2) restyle the car's rear end
    3) make its interior more plush and luxurious
    4) boost its fuel economy in hopes of reaching 40 miles per gallon in highway driving"

"Bland" and "Boring" come from the ugly exterior (front end and side profile look hideous compared to the FD), the numb steering, and (according to reviews) cheap interior.

With regards to the power:weight. Not really a factor considering the EXi is about the same weight as the FD 1.8S A/T.

And even then - just because a car can go fast doesn't mean it is "fun" and "exciting".

The redesign/MMC you didn't know about is Honda's implicit admission to this.

Test drove sa Fort Global Honda Mania. I like the ride better than my old FD. Mukhang mas tahimik at better yung suspension. Also, I think the VSA, rear view integrated camera, bluetooth, integrated audio, econ mode, cruise control and being a Japan CBU justify the 100k difference with other car brands. Mas maluwag din ngayon yung 2nd row, mas malaki yung leg room. Pag pinalagyan sa casa yung ibang sedan ng OEM AVT audio system, baka mas mahal pa lalabas na price kesa sa Civic o halos parehas lang price.

If I were buying a compact sedan car, this certainly would be on the top of my list. Yung lang, the difference with Sportage 4X2 or Tucson GLS 4X2 is just only 100k. Kaya isip muna.

Feature wise, the 9th gen has got it but at that price (+ the interest from the bank financing of 3-5yrs if installment) will really matter....wiser choice would be to go for the Tucson or Sportage or better yet go lower to the Elantra and the likes.
Honda will have their hands full on justifying that price for the 9th Gen.

Honda probably did a "think again", and realized, yes, this new civic is bland and boring.

At this moment, Honda is sourcing the Civic from Japan so only one variant and hence the high price.

Once the Thai plant goes online, some journalists are saying that the price could down to the same level as the 2011 Civic FD.

I do think that 100K or about 10% given the high base price is too much to pay for the same car, regardless of where it's assembled/manufactured.

Pag nag order ka rin naman ng replacement parts in the future, Thai-made din naman yan hehe.

The 2.0li series sold in the Philippines is supposedly synonymous with performance. The R-series engine was created more for efficiency and applications that does not require a wide rev band. Hence, I think the PHDM will still sport a 2.0 K-series engine. Even better if Honda Phils. can manage to drop a K24 (2.4li) just like the Si in the US.

K24 in the USDM Civic Si.
