There's really nothing so advanced about a torque converter automatic transmission. Its been around for more than six decades already. The more gears present in a transmission gives the vehicle a better fuel efficiency (as the engine can spin at a lower rpm) for long highway drives.

Now if a dual clutch automatic transmission (like that found in the Fiesta or Focus) were to be compared to with an ordinary torque converter automatic transmission, then it can be said that some penny pinching has occurred.

well first, the civic and mazda 3 is a compact car. and not a subcompact. i wouldve believe everything you said if atleast you got this very simple fact right.

second, a more advance technology doesnt meant it has to be more expensive. hondas are mass production cars! i bet it doesnt cost much more to make a 5 speed transmission than a 4 speed transmission. computers are much cheaper now compared to 5-15 years ago. yet its more advance than anyone could've imagined that time.

third, what is the justification of raising the price of say a 2010 honda civic V fd by more than 100 THOUSAND PESOS since its launch in 2006?! its basically the same car with VERY minor upgrades!

first, thank you for pointing that out. but my 7th gen civic is still in the subcompact category. and oh, it has 127hp, not 104ps.

second, did you read my comparison? i compared apple with apple. seriously dude, you want to compare computers with car engines?

third, have you read my other post about invoice price? you might want to learn more about it so you will be armed with knowledge next time you buy your next car. it is unfortunate that philippine government is not mandating manufacturers to give this information to the public. but once you learn the invoice price, you can negotiate better. also, the price increase is plain economics. outside the philippines, actual money is being paid for services and parts -- no freebies. honda is a publicly traded company, where stockholders own shares. stockholders will not invest in honda if they will be gaining money if not losing. however, not all money goes to profit, a big sum of them goes to research. no research, no technology, no safety, no tomorrow. you want status quo? honda is not your company to look up to.
