Was able to attend Fr Jett's Triduum talk Holy Week 2011. Sadly I missed Fr Ben's this year.

I wouldn't be surprised. Reformed na ba?

It's also the last year of Norman Black at the helm of the Blue Eagles bench.

well, father dacanay personally took him under his legendary wing, so i suppose he saw the error of his ways. pero last year there was a time na touch and go daw because he was really being wooed by ball clubs to leave school already. at talagang not being included in the team last year was a bitter pill to swallow according to the original phenom. btw, his grades are up and word on the grapevine is that he's ready to go although he's still a bit overweight

re norman black's impending departure, i understand that informally and discreetly, the search is now on for his replacement. God help his successor for the considerable weight of the (atenean) world will be on his shoulders hehe

Norman Black is a tough act to follow indeed; his coaching program was long term and the successor will still benefit from that. I know that family friend or ours is included in the small group searching for the next coach; he also does scouting for ADMU down in the VisMin area.

then your family friend has his hands full because the announcement for coach norman black's replacement, if i understood correctly, would be made before the start of season 75.

personally, i'm rooting for coach sandy arrespacochaga because he knows "the system" inside and out but the odds are apparently against him because alums perceive he supposedly lacks the all important recruitment pull a collegiate coach should have. but in my own biased opinion, i think the ateneo brand is enough to entice or at the very least make prospective recruits consider playing for the blue and white

I'm pretty sure they're at it. I read/hear about the search committee talk sometime last year.

For me, what i think Sandy lacks is the experience of being able to coach/play and prove his worth in the big leagues that's why there's still lukewarm support for him; hirap naman din kasi since Ateneans are now used to having big time, ex-PBA player/coaches on the bench. Minalas din siya when he was head coach since he had a relatively good team then he lost his key player (Larry Fonacier) midway due to ACL and being leaderless (LA Tenorio tried his best to fill in), the team was not able to adjust well enough come the second round. Sandy however will be one of the bluest, home grown choices they can make though.

you're right on all points. but still i can't help root for the guy. coach sandy has definitely paid his dues in spades and i wish him all the luck in the world

on another front, i wish that more scholarships would be made available to our seniors football program to enable ateneo to recruit quality booters . right now we're in the pits in the uaap and it's such a darn shame.

i like the direction of our ladies' volleyball program though. from the dregs to the elites in a relatively short time. plus they're helping to promote the game of volleyball nationwide. they're like rock n' roll stars with tons of fans around. who would ever thunk?! hehe

btw, sir pedro san pedro finally said goodbye to the high school campus last month. it's a shame my son-to-be won't be able to bask in his flowery tagalog soliloquies once he enters the hallowed grounds of my youth. sometimes time can be so freakin' ruthless

Si Big Boy nalang daw maabot ng son mo.

    * the ladies volleyball, magaganda din kasi sila and the Shakeys V-League and Nestle Beach Volleyball helped drum it up all the more.

    * soccer, sayang naman since during my time, they were ranking well in the UAAP and had a few championships to boot (pun intended). I'd bet if Chris Monfort were still around, he would have really pushed for a top notch soccer program.

I agree with you, Sandy has paid his dues and deserves a good shot and support.
