Saw a Mini Cooper with TZI - ***

    ==============

New car plate registration through Subaru is quicker than the usual 2 months. A little less than 5 weeks wait and its available already. And they didn't ask for extra charges when I requested for a thursday coding, unlike Toyota. Haven't picked it yet. Probably assigned with TZ* series.

LTO eyes license plates in fight vs car thefts
By Reinir Padua (The Philippine Star) Updated June 17, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0)

MANILA, Philippines - The new license plates that will be issued by the government in its planned nationwide standardization program will be harder to detach from the vehicles, making it difficult to fake them and steal the vehicles, a Land Transportation Office (LTO) official said yesterday.

LTO executive director Alfonso Tan said this was one of the “security features” that the planned new plate would have.

“It will have a more permanent attachment feature,” he said.

Tan explained that because of this feature, it would be more difficult to remove the plate from its assigned vehicle. And once it is removed from its vehicle, it will be obvious, since the plate will have been slightly damaged by then.

These features would make it difficult to transfer the plate to another car, he said.

Tan said this would address the problem of fake license plates and even the non-recognition of stolen vehicles by law enforcers.

“We will propose a program to replace all license plates,” Tan said, noting that public consultations will soon be held on the matter.

The public consultations would be held since the motor vehicle owners would be the ones to shoulder the expenses for the new license plates.

Soon, all private and public vehicles will be issued new license plates, he said.

Tan said the LTO was still awaiting the approval of the Department of Transportation and Communications on the plan.

“We will not mandate a one-time replacement,” Tan said, noting that the replacement of plates for existing vehicles would be done during their registration.

The LTO official said they hope to complete the plate standardization program within a year once it is approved, except for newly bought vehicles.

Baka they'll use a permanent/unremovable bolting like rivets.
Pero pano kung nabangga kasama yung plate? It would make it appear that the plate was tampered with,
and palagi ka na bang ma-flag down because of that?

Not yet. They are just bouncing the idea around.

Just like all sort of stuff they introduced over the years (drug test, smoke emission test, etc...) this is not about the gov't wanting to prevent theft or crime but rather its a yet another avenue to siphon money (and all the graft, kickback, overpricing that comes with this kind of project).

If the proposal pushes through, everyone with a motor vehicle wanting to renew registration would have to pay for these new plates along with the renewal fees. Yes, every single vehicle. That is a lot! Imagine how incompetent they (LTO) are presently in providing new plates for newly registered vehicles. Now imagine all the vehicles in the Philippines needing new plates.

it would be more difficult to remove the plate from its assigned vehicle. And once it is removed from its vehicle, it will be obvious, since the plate will have been slightly damaged by then.
Their idea of making a tamper proof or irremovable plate is really ridiculous from the motor vehicle's perspective.

Not to LTO though. So every time your license plate is "tampered", does it need to be replaced with a new one? Or will the enforcer keep on apprehending you for having a "tampered" plate(s). Either way its $$$$$$$ LTO $$$$$$$$$!

And in the end, the supposedly "tamper proof" plates turn out to be not tamperproof at all and will fade when washed with soap water.
