Re: When to change gears?
Actually, you should base your shifting on the tachometer (RPM) rather than the speedometer. Also depends on conditions and driving style. If you want to save on fuel, shift up when you reach 2000rpm.
Re: When to change gears?
If the engine sounds like it's about to blow up, it's either time to shift up into the next gear, or if you're in top gear... slow down. :hysterical:
-
The appropriate time to shift will depend on the engine and situation. For smaller gasoline engines, it's more appropriate to shift up at around 2500-3000 rpm (as long as the gears aren't incredibly long), while bigger gasoline engines and diesels will feel comfortable shifting up at 2000-2500 rpm.
On most cars you start in 1st gear... on some you can start in 2nd (L300, anyone? :hysterical ) with no problems.
There's no golden rule. In my old 1.3, I was in 4th by 50 km/h. In my 2.0, I'm in 5th. In the Focus diesel, I'm in 6th... ...as long as the car isn't lugging (naghihirap... or nagkakabayo...)... then you're in the right gear.
Re: When to change gears?
There is no hard and fast rules. Generally, listen to the sound of the engine and let it be your guide.

correct! tama si gerbo.

Re: When to change gears?
there are rules but its practically flexible, one can base it on the rpm

Re: When to change gears?
around 2k rpm ako mag shift depending kung kelangan ng extra power like pataas or mag overtake.
Re: When to change gears?
it depends... pero ang madalas kong napapansin, at 2000 rpm or even before it reaches 2000 rpm ang shifting
Re: When to change gears?
It depends on how do you want to drive..
race drive: shift each gear around 4000-6000 rpm. consumption is high, more engine strain.
Tipid mode: Change each gear below 2000rpm. Maybe higher than 2000 rpm considering you need more power to move at the right pace. results to better fuel consumption.
If your car is new, you can read the manual. most of them have description on proper gearing change.
Nice comment Niky..hehe! that is used in race style driving..

Re: When to change gears?
When you change at <1.5k rpm will it affect fuel consumption than changing at <3k rpm?
Also, when you coast on gear or when decelerating on gear would it affect fuel consumption rather than going neutral and just stepping the brakes?
Lastly, when the paper says max power 105hp * 6000rpm and max torque 102 ft lb * 4000rpm. What does it mean?
Thanks! :)

Depends if your ride can take it. Most gasoline vehicles will lug if you change up at 1.5k rpm, because that puts you at just 1k rpm in the next gear.

Cars don't use very much gas on coastdown. And if they're EFI, they hardly use any at all.

It means your car makes the most horsepower at 6000 rpm and the most torque at 4000 rpm. Which means that, typically, for best acceleration, you want to keep the engine revs between those two points in each gear.
Re: When to change gears?
Thanks sir niky!
:)
Thanks po! :)
Re: When to change gears?
paano kapag mabilis ang takbo then medyo bumagal then speed up ulit. kailangan pa bang mag change ng gear?

depends on how slow and how fast you want to be, depends also on the engine.
if for example you are on 3rd gear * 4.5k rpm and slow down to 2.5k rpm you wouldn't change gear if you wanted to accelerate again. but if it dropped to 1.5k rpm and wanted to accelerate again, its better to shift to second and shift to 3rd * 4.5k rpm. something like that
Re: When to change gears?
You shift at torque peaks.

Salamat...:help:
Re: When to change gears?
Usually what I do kung nasa fifth gear at me slowdown, I drop directly to 3rd. From 3rd to 5th uli if okay na uli ang trapik. Kung naka 3rd ka at slow down, you can drop to 1st directly. Maraming permutations yan. Basis talaga is dapat yung engine note mo ay hindi strained pakinggan.
Re: When to change gears?
ganito sa akin,
mabilis ang takbo at nasa 5th gear ako;
Re: When to change gears?
