Nicely build body, decent dashboard layout and knobs. Nice fabric seat too.
I wonder if the engine performance will give its competitors a run for their money.
If the engine/power train lives up to the well known Cummins durability then the japanese brand pick-ups should watch out. I myself is not a fan of Pick up trucks but this one caught my interest, must be the engine, features & price tag that comes with this Thunder.
One thing I like with this truck is the big turbo charger inter-cooler located in the front of the radiator. This ensure ample supply of cooling air when the truck is at halt in the city traffic. This lay-out made access to the cylinder head parts easier unlike those designs that positioned the inter-cooler atop of the rocker cover.

a servo assisted clutch would be so much less stress on many peoples left knee, reminds me of the old nissan safari truck. a pedal as comfortable to operate as the japanese big trucks will surely make the pickup a darling to drive. not the likes of the typical run of the mill hydraulic clutch systems we have been weaned on.
i wonder how the cummins sound like when idling, coz the thing that i associate with these engines is the fuel knock and the sweet sound of the turbo whilsting .
btw the differential looks like the one mounted on the old mini cruisers of yore, but only a bit longer.

    As requested. Some more pics.

ECU & Alternator mounted high in the engine bay. ECU is sealed?? Good for wading in the flooded manila roads. Yes
With vacuum assisted clutch pedal means less stress to the left foot = less atake ng rayuma for the young once, he, he..

The interior fittings are better than the Foton Blizard ... but I still hate that wood finish... it makes the car and the owner seemed older.

New Foton Tunland Double Cab takes on the heavy weights

Chinese bakkies are known to be cheap workhorses, not exactly long on style, luxury or features. The new Tunland double cab from Foton is set to change all that. Who is Foton exactly? Not yet a household name in South Africa, they are in fact one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial vehicles.
But that doesn’t mean they know much about passenger vehicles. And that’s why the Tunland is quite unique. In order to get their first effort at a high end one ton bakkie right, they recruited the help of a team of international experts from Europe and the USA to assist them in its design.
So what makes the Tunland good enough to take on the likes of Toyota and now VW, both of which have high end bakkies in the market, not to mention fierce brand loyalty going back many years.
For starters it'll be by far the most powerful Chinese diesel bakkie on the market, with a 2.8-litre turbodiesel Cummins ISF engine putting out 120kW and 360Nm. In future the Tunland will even offer the option of a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox and buyers will be able to choose between rear-wheel drive and 4WD transmission, with rear diff lock.
Secondly, this is no suburban cruiser. It is designed to tackle extreme off-road conditions, with a ground clearance of 230mm, respective approach and departure angles of 300 and 240 degrees and a maximum gradeability of 60%.
Foton also claims that it will be the largest one-tonne bakkie on the market and that its cab will offer the roominess of a big SUV. It can also tow a trailer weighing up to 2,5 tonnes.
Last but not least, according to Foton, prototypes of the Tunland have already passed stringent European-type crash tests, with a projected EuroNCAP rating of four stars making it among the safest bakkies on the market
Apart from the impressive crash test results, it features other safety features intent on protecting its passengers, including ABS, EBD, twin airbags and a steel-reinforced body.
Chinese-made bakkies are of course also known for their rock bottom prices. It is not known at this time what the Tunland will retail at in South Africa (it is set to debut at the Johannesburg Motor Show in October) but chances are it will be very competitive.

Will talk to them Boss, then I'll try and hook up with a media friend para maging legit yung test drive. Though I have some contact sa C! Magazine, baka meron dito makakapag suggest ng ibang "tach-driver" who has the "know-how" in assessing and test driving such vehicles (Top Gear, probably?).
