Hey guys. I have an engine noise problem. So pag umaga or basta first start of the day, pag engage ko sa drive may sound na tiktiktik coming from the engine then when you press the pedal na it becomes a little louder and dissipates when you release the gas. After about 5 mins when the engine is warm na, everything sounds normal na. Also pag park or neutral, no unusual noise and norma idle engine sound naman. Its only during the early moments of first using the car in the day that i experience this sound from the engine. So what i do, after driving out of the driveway, i drive really slow and avoid revving until i get out of the village, by that time engine is warm and noise is gone. Anybody experiencing this?

1st time diesel user? The noise is probably the tappets which is more prominent dhring a cold start. If it goes away it should be normal. Also you will notice the first acceleration on first gear there will be a springy spund underneath. This too should be normal. However have it checked na din for peace of mind

No sir. We've had diesels before and even older rangers but i dont recall having this kind of noise. Even our old pajero doesnt have this issue, pero it has a different kind noise, ung typical old diesel noise haha

ill try to explain it sa casa next pms. Because by the time i get to casa, engine will be warm and wont have the symptoms na.

TIA

Brought my Ranger to Batangas today. Talagang kulang sa power - may kasabay akong Altis 1.6G along STAR, from 100-170 sabay lang acceleration namin, then nag 180 na siya and started inching away. Bago ako makahabol nag-exit na siya.

We were 5 full sized adults on board though, but with the Ranger's supposed torque, it shouldn't have been a problem.

Turbo lag is also crazy, practically no pulling power unless youre in the turbo range so you really have to shift a lot. Di tulad sa Fortuner - it's either ample power (before boost) or power overload (once turbo kicks).

Right now on-board computer is showing 10 km/L. That's around 80 km city and 140 km highway. Will find out later when I gas up again kung ano mileage based on manual computation.

Against a car, wala talagang laban sir. Sa pulling and hauling power pwede, Torque is 375 Nm at 1500-2500 rpm. Kailangan nasa range kayo sir above 1500 rpm before shifting to enjoy the ranger's torque.

Its a small displacement engine after all. Isipin nyo nalang na PUMA engine yan being used by the ford transit and the land rovers. Sobrang tibay ng engine na yan. Its not meant for speed.

Kung alam nyo lang how the ranger (both 3.2 and 2.2) were tortured by the ranger odyssey team in Africa (witnessed by C! editor James Deakin), mabibilib kayo. 8000kms of punishment (with almost 200kms of sand driving). Being a first time ford tdci owner, got a lot of confidence from this.

    Going back..as I've said...turbo lag is sh!t LOL.

Gas and diesel engines are way different. Gas engines are flat torque while diesel are picky. Once you go over, turbo would not spool as much as it isin the range. One advantage of NA engines vs turbo charged engines. Isama mo pa power to weight ratio as well as aerodynamics.

Sir kng is right, it's not meant for speed. Haha

Sorry type error kanina. Pogi yan sir. Negative offset na sidewinder para sakto siya pag may flares na.

Exactly. Pick up has much higher curb weight (1.8 tons) than passenger cars (1.2tons) though pickup has bigger engine. Plus fuel is different. Comparing it to Fortuner is closer match. Pero no match pa rin. Baka naman Ranger is not designed for quick acceleration but rather on economy & emission. Or Engine management system might be limiting the speed.

i shift at >2000 rpm para may momentum.

Both Ranger & D-Max are turbo charged right? Ranger has VGT. Not sure with D-Max if Naka VGT. VGT is supposed to provide optimal air at all rpm range (addressing the lag). Looks like it's not. Better get bigger displacement for better acceleration.

I've never believed that vgts provides optimum power. Displacement pa din ang magdadala ng torque.

Not so with the Korean diesels. The Santa Fe has a 2.2L eVGT diesel engine yet you cannot feel any turbo lag.

Does Sta Fe have MT? Gear ratio I found is AT only. Comparing the gear ratios again. Sta Fe has the lowest 1st gear final ratio of 14 engine revolution per wheel revolution (3.789 x 3.684). It also has the lowest 5th gear final ratio of 2.7 engine revolution per wheel revolution (0.728 x 3.684).

I remember somebody asking about the rpm at 100kph. They can check out this site to theoretically calculate the rpm. Just have to key in several data. Close to actual naman yun calculation. rpm&speedcalculator
