help. can anyone suggest a smart, fully automatic car battery charger?

    - can charge the battery without removal from the engine bay
    - must be able to switch to "trickle charge" mode when battery is fully charged
    - can kept plugged into the AC outlet for a long time (24 hours or more) without damaging the car battery
    - must support maintenance-free batteries among others
    - have safety provisions, e.g. over-current, over-power, over-voltage, over-charge, etc.

please share brand, model, price and store/seller where you got it.

*Vodka: looks like the IMAX B6 is primarily intended for R/C batteries. i need a charger specifically designed for car batteries. thanks for the suggestion.

How much do these things cost? I bought a manual car battery charger (Panther) kasi I have a feeling that a good manual charger outlasts a cheap 'smart' charger within its price range (2k)

Was initially eyeing that Suder pero am having reservations sa quality especially sa connectors pa lang. Mukhang mas malaki pa yung Panther ko na 6A kesa sa Suder 20A hehe. Ask ko lang if you have a vehicle fleet? With that price kasi its a brand new battery na basically

*ParticleX: no, i only have 1 car. pero tama ka, price of brand new battery na nga.

about panther manual battery charger, paano paggamit nyan? pwede ba iwan nakakabit sa battery at AC power for 24 hours and more, without damaging the battery?

hindi kasi magagamit ang car for 1-3 months so ipapakabit ko lang sa kapatid ko ung charger sa car battery.. like every 2 weeks or 4 weeks for maintenance charging. dapat safe na pwede iwan nakakabit para kahit makalimutan at kinabukasan pa tanggalin ang charger ay okay lang.

Yung binili ko is Panther PBC-6A. bale manual-based charging sya. May time table nakalagay kung ilang hours estimated charge kung fully depleted battery. Ang ginagawa ko is to open the battery vent caps and add water, and charge it. Pag 1A or less ang nakalagay sa ammeter (built in sa device) almost full charge na yun. I also monitor it thru my voltmeter. Panther also sells an automatic battery charger, di ko lang alam ang price.

Kung hindi magagamit, bili ka na lang ng battery maintainer/battery tender/trickle charger, usually ang output nito is 1A or less, just to keep the battery topped up. Pero ang nakikita ko sa sulit is 3k+ din, which for me is di sulit kasi price pa rin ng battery yun. There are lots of How-Tos sa internet kung pano gumawa ng trickle charger. Sinubukan ko dati kaso without a resistor, ayun di kinaya ng adapter yung load ng battery kaya bumigay fuse

O di kaya let him use it na lang sometimes, para maka circulate ang oils and at the same time macharge ang battery.

Had this solar trickle charger for years and used it whenever I leave to work abroad. Though only 1.5W it certainly helps during long storage and prevents the battery from being flat.

Better to ask your brother to start the car engine or maybe use the car for a couple of kms once a week or so. Battery is the least of your concern when leaving a vehicle for extended period of time.

guys, i appreciate the suggestion but driving the car is not an option for us.

i read that starting the car engine will substantially drain more energy from the battery than can be charged back by leaving the engine at idle. mas mabilis daw ma-drain ang battery. tama ba ang info na ito??

if yes, then kailangan ko pa rin ng battery charger para di mag-flat empty ang battery.

yespo. idling won't do it. you have to take the car to the road and at speed, in order to sufficiently charge the battery.
but leaving the trickle charger on, un-attended, might not be a good idea, either.
what we do, is to charge the battery at regular intervals (q 3 weeks), using more than just a tickle of an amperage. nakikita naman kapag near-full charge na, e. the current meter of the charger will show a significant drop in the amperage. say, from 7 amp to 1 amp..

it may not be a good idea to let the car remain un-moved for longer periods. yung car namin, hindi ginamit nang 3 weeks.. binahayan ng langgam ang loob ng side skirt.. hirap patayin..
