opinyon lang po....sigurado po baba ang presyo ng gasolina at diesel....pag nagkataon na lumabas na me murang mga electric powered vehicles.....
Wishful thinking. No, prices of gasoline & diesel will not go down simply because some cars will be powered by electric batteries.
Currently available electric cars (here and abroad) still the basic problem of either they have a short traveling range per charge or costs more than the equivalent petrol/diesel fueled car.
Another major problem is the long charging time for most electric cars. Usually takes hours (or overnight) to get a useful charge level.
The range for electric v ehicles in the Philippines, currently is between 250k (G-Car) to 350-500k+ (e-jeepney and foreign multi-passenger vehicles). But these are open cars, much like the Norkis Spider. The Gee-Whiz was supposed to be sold here with full weather-proofing and cabin air, but it just costs waaaay too much... probably over 800k for a two-seat car smaller than a Smart.
I've got contacts for two or three suppliers. The G-Car people didn't respond to my e-mail, though... and one of those suppliers promised electrics last year, but still haven't delivered.

Unless they can run on electric power alone, no. The Prius, as stock, is not an electric vehicle. It's a gasoline vehicle with start-stop technology and hybrid electric-assist. You can convert it into an electric vehicle, though. There's an add-on battery pack and programming thingamajiggy that allows it to run fully electric for short distances.
Try running a stock Prius on electric only and it'll run out of puff in a dozen kilometers or so. It just wasn't built to be an electric.
And Prii aren't for sale here, sadly...

A hybrid, is, by definition, a car that can run on two sources of power. If the electric vehicle doesn't have another motor (whether it be diesel, gasoline, LPG, whatever) it's not a hybrid.
Now the Prius is a gasoline car with an electric hybrid system. The upcoming Chevrolet Volt on the other hand, is an electric car with a gasoline hybrid charging system. There's a big difference in the application. In the Prius, the electric system is there merely to supplement the gasoline system. In the Volt, the electric system provides the main motive power of the car, and the gasoline system is merely used to top-off the batteries.

The engine itself? No.
The vehicle? Depends. How much money do you have?![]()
