The Foton is in a lower segment than the Hivan. Though they both come with front and rear foglamps (as required in China) and a fire extinguisher bracket (another China requirement).

The Hivan has ABS+EBD and is more modern in terms of body, engine, and technology. 12 seats and up models also come with a glass breaking hammer (again, to comply with Chinese safety regulations)

Hey Doc, have you tested the Hivan already ? How is it compared to let's say ... the Commuter Hi-Ace when it comes to performance ? Just to see if the undeniably hefty price can be justified.

i quote ko lang post ko... :D

No test drives yet for me. The Foton View was the last China van I tested. Performance wise the Hiace commuter is the best performing of all the Hiace variants since it has the smallest body and the lightest dry (curb) weight.

The engine of the Hivan is a copy of Toyota's 2.5 D4d and Joylong rates it at 113bhp vs. Toyota's rating of 102bhp. A test drive should really be done if the specs hold true. But I don't expect a 23 seat Joylong to compete with a Commuter in a race.

And keep in mind that the Joylong is LONGER and TALLER than even the Hiace Super Grandia variant. So the price is not really that crazy. And the fact that the Joylong is based on updated mechanicals unlike the Foton View which is based on an older generation vehicle. If you will use the vehicle for business, you would not really need the modern mechanicals but for private use, you'd definitely appreciate the more rigid body structure of a modern design which translates into less rattles, quieter ride, more efficient use of space, etc.

*Mechanicals are hit and miss also. If you see the actual conditions of the van as they arrive (before being refurbished), you'll know what I mean.
*I don't think you can purchase them via financing. Perhaps through other loan methods but not your typical auto loan.
*Virtually no warranty. Even through dealers who claim to 'guarantee' their units.

Foton will also bring in a Hiace Grandia High Roof-clone version next year and its called Foton K1..Powered by Cummins 2.8 Liter CRDI engine.

The Joylong Hivan's aircon is actually good for a Chinese-made van.Tested this one at their stock yard at Grace Park in Caloocan(its local distributor is Izuparts). They're using Toyota D-4D engine.

Pansin ko lang sa Joylong, ung sa ceiling niya parang nag momoist, must be from the airconditioning line.

The Grace Park showroom/office is better but the Quezon Avenue branch is easier to get to.
